Nine Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad

SELINSGROVE, PA – Nine Susquehanna University field hockey players have been named to the 2002 National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad, the NFHCA has announced.

Student-athletes selected have been nominated by their coach and have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2002-03 academic year.

Earning honors from Susquehanna were seniors Katie McKeever (Norristown, PA/Methacton H.S.) and Megan Patrono (Greenwood Lake, NY/West Milford Twp. N.J. H.S.), junior Liz Harker (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata H.S.), sophomores Jacqui DeLorbe (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant H.S.), Holly Holgate (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail H.S.) and Annie Shoemaker (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill H.S.), and freshmen Amelia Davies (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg H.S.), Caitlin Meara (Wilmington, DE/Concord H.S.) and Shelley Reppert (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg H.S.).

The Crusaders finished 17-4 overall and ranked seventh in the final NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll after a 1-0 setback to College of New Jersey in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

Susquehanna placed second in the Commonwealth Conference with a 6-1 regular-season league mark, losing in the conference finals to eventual national runner-up Messiah.

Head coach Connie Harnum announced her retirement in December after compiling a 195-159-23 record in 27 seasons with the Crusaders.
