Lalo, Anderson Named All-Conference in Softball

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University senior shortstop Shana Lalo has been named first-team All-Commonwealth Conference in softball by the league’s eight head coaches, the conference announced Tuesday.

Senior first baseman Gretchen Anderson was a second-team selection after helping the Crusaders to a 9-12-1 overall record and 6-8 in the Commonwealth Conference under first-year head coach Kathy Kroupa.

Lalo (Bethlehem, PA/Northampton H.S.), who also earned first-team All-Conference honors in 2000, finished third in the league in batting average at .462 and on-base percentage at .514, and tied for fifth in slugging percentage with a .585 mark.

Lalo, who hit safely in 14 consecutive games from March 2 to April 16, also led the Crusaders with six doubles and eight walks while driving in 10 runs.

Anderson (Southington, CT/Southington H.S.) hit .366 and led the Crusaders with 14 runs batted in despite playing in only 14 of 22 games due to student-teaching commitments. She committed just one error in 89 chances at first base and was second on the squad with four doubles.

Lalo finished her Susquehanna career tied for second in program history with 127 hits, ninth with a .358 batting average and ninth with 52 runs batted in while starting 114 consecutive games over four seasons.

Anderson, a three-year starter for the Crusaders, hit .246 with 51 hits and 33 runs batted in during her career. Defensively, she holds the Susquehanna career record for putouts (558) and fielding percentage (.992) while ranking second with 594 chances accepted.
