Amy Cohen Named Field Hockey Coach
SELINSGROVE , PA - Susquehanna University has named Amy Cohen head field hockey coach, director of athletics Pam Samuelson announced Wednesday.
Cohen, a native of Linwood, N.J., has served as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware for the last four seasons, helping the Blue Hens to the Colonial Athletic Association championship in 2004. She succeeds Amy Zimmerman, who resigned in May after compiling a 28-25 record in three seasons with the Crusaders.
A 2002 graduate of Lafayette College with a bachelor's degree in history, Cohen was a four-year starting goalkeeper from 1998 to 2001 and helped the Leopards to the Patriot League championship in 1999 while earning second-team All-Mideast Region honors. She ranks second all-time in program history with 541 saves and twice finished among the NCAA Division I leaders in goals against average.
"Amy has been successful as both a player and as an assistant coach, and we are hopeful that she will enjoy similar success as a head coach," said Samuelson. "Her academic and athletic experiences at Lafayette and Delaware have well-prepared her for a seamless transition into our program."
For the past seven years, Cohen has been a coach in the U.S. Field Hockey Futures program and has worked a number of summer camps, including the University of Delaware Elite Camp where she was in charge of curriculum for three years.
While at Lafayette, Cohen was vice-president of Lafayette 's Sports Council for Athletics and was a three-time Patriot League Academic/Athletic Honor Roll selection. She earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Delaware in 2005.
