Capkin Named First-Team Academic All-District

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University senior Sean Capkin has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District II College Division first team in men's track and field, as voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America and released Thursday.

Capkin (Wynnewood, PA/Lower Merion) finished fifth in the 400 meters at the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field championships and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field championships last month, helping the Crusaders to second-place finishes in both championships.

Off the track, Capkin graduated with a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average as a double major in elementary education and Spanish. He was a member of the Dean's List, a University Scholar, a member of the University Honors program, a Presidential Fellow, received the Blair Heaton Award as the outstanding male scholar-athlete at Susquehanna and was the MAC Scholar-Athlete in indoor track and field for the 2005-06 season.

He was also vice-president of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and a member of the Kappa Delta Pi (education), Phi Sigma Iota (foreign language) and Sigma Tau Delta (English) honor societies.

Capkin was also a resident assistant, student director of the Language Center , held an assistantship position in the Admissions Office, was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and studied abroad in Buenos Aires , Argentina .

He will join other first-team honorees from CoSIDA's eight districts on the national ballot, with announcement of the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams scheduled for Tuesday, June 20.

Athletes on the College Division District II team represent NCAA Division II and III schools from Delaware , the District of Columbia , Maryland , New Jersey , Pennsylvania and West Virginia .
