Shaffer Named First-Team Academic All-District

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University junior shortstop Sarah Shaffer has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District II College Division first team in softball, as voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America and released Thursday.

Shaffer (New Castle, PA/Shenango), a second-team Academic All-District honoree last season and a third-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region selection, hit .422 with six home runs and 25 runs batted in for the Crusaders, and led the Commonwealth Conference in both slugging percentage (.761) and triples (five) while setting a single-season program record for home runs and tying the mark for doubles with nine.

Off the field, Shaffer is an English-secondary education major with a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average. She is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi (education) and Sigma Tau Delta (English) honor societies and has been named to the Dean's List every semester.

She will join other first-team honorees from CoSIDA's eight districts on the national ballot, with announcement of the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams scheduled for Wednesday, May 31.
