Susquehanna to Host Commonwealth Softball Tourney

SELINSGROVE, Pa . – Susquehanna University's Sassafras Field will be the host site for the two-day Commonwealth Conference Softball Tournament, which begins Friday morning at 11 a.m. and concludes Saturday afternoon.

Five-time defending conference champion Moravian is joined by Lebanon Valley, Albright and Susquehanna in the double-elimination tournament. Daily admission to the tournament is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students, with an all-session pass available at $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for students. Children under 6 are admitted free as are Susquehanna students who show their school identification at the gate, compliments of the Varsity Club.

MORAVIAN (30-6) is anchored by senior righthander Meagan Hennessy, who is staking her place in the NCAA Division III career record book as she is tied for second in shutouts (50), tied for eighth in victories (86), seventh in strikeouts (818), tied for ninth in earned run average (0.86), ninth in innings pitched (755) and tied for 11th in complete games (96).

LEBANON VALLEY (26-10) enters the tournament one victory shy of the program single-season record of 27 wins set last season, and is led by junior Jenn Roberts who shares the school career record for victories with 33. Junior Amy Batz broke her own single-season record for hits (46) while sophomore Lauren Sanford leads the league with 29 walks.

ALBRIGHT (13-21) hit just .245 as a team this season but smacked 12 home runs. Senior catcher Meridith Hippert leads the team in batting (.329) and runs batted in (20) while senior Ashley Young will look to repeat her standout performance from last year's playoffs when she went 2-1 with a 1.72 ERA and was 7-for-13 with five doubles at the plate.

SUSQUEHANNA (22-10) has shown a tendency for late-game heroics with 10 victories coming in their final at-bat including four “walk-off” wins. Junior shortstop Sarah Shaffer is second in the conference in batting average (.437) and leads the league in both slugging percentage (.786) and on-base percentage (.482), and needs three hits to tie the single-season school record of 48 and two runs to tie the season mark of 30.
