Stewart Moan Named Men's Lacrosse Coach
SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University has named Stewart Moan head men's lacrosse coach and director of athletic facilities, director of athletics Pam Samuelson has announced. Moan comes to Susquehanna after serving as head men's lacrosse coach at Oneonta State College, where he compiled a 61-43 record in six seasons as head coach, including a 12-5 mark in 2007. Overall, Moan has 165 victories in 18 seasons as a head coach at the Division III level.
"Coach Moan is very highly regarded in the lacrosse field and is known for his ability to prepare his teams to compete and his high level of professionalism in all that he does." said Samuelson. "I am confident that he will do an outstanding job both furthering the development of our lacrosse program and managing our athletic facilities."
A 1978 graduate of Salisbury University and a 1981 graduate of Morgan State University with a master of science degree in recreation administration, Moan began his collegiate coaching career at Haverford College in 1986, where he spent two years as both head lacrosse and head women's basketball coach.
He then moved to Lynchburg College, where he guided the Hornets to a 67-40 record from 1988 to 1995 including a 12-3 record in 1994 that including a 14th-place ranking in the nation. That year, Moan was selected as head coach for the Division III North/South All-Star game.
After stints as an assistant coach at the Division I level at Duke University (1995-96), Lafayette College (1996-97) and Villanova University (1997-98), Moan became head coach at Marymount University in 1998 and guided the Saints to a 29-22 record in three seasons.
During his tenure at Marymount, he was named Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2000 and led the program to its first-ever national ranking. After moving to Oneonta in 2001, Moan was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year in 2005 and earned his 150th career victory in 2006.
Professionally, Moan has been a member of several NCAA Division III advisory committees, served as regional chair of the Division III All-American committee, was chair of the men's lacrosse sport committee for the CAC and SUNYAC, and has been a featured speaker at the US Lacrosse national convention.
The Crusaders finished 3-11 overall during the 2007 season, and will begin play in the newly-formed Landmark Conference for the 2008 season along with Catholic University, Drew University, Goucher College, Moravian College, the University of Scranton and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
