Marr Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

SELINSGROVE, PA -- Susquehanna University senior Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) is one of 58 winter student-athletes nationwide to earn a NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Marr is a co-captain of the men's track and field team and previously earned the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete award for men's indoor track and field.

Marr has enjoyed a stellar career for the Susquehanna track and field program that includes helping his team to a runner-up finish at the inaugural Landmark Championships in both indoor and outdoor season. At the outdoor championships last weekend, he took gold in the high jump, silver in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump.

He earned All-American status as a junior when he placed 6th in the high jump at the NCAA Championships, and he has either automatically or provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships five times.

Marr has won five conference championships in the high jump over the course of his career, and holds the Susquehanna indoor record in the event (6' 8 ¼"). He is majoring in biology with a minor in healthcare studies and is a member of both the Beta Beta Beta biology honor society and Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society. After graduation, he will attend the University of Pittsburgh dental school.

"This is a well deserved honor for Mike. His work ethic in the classroom and in athletics is not matched by many," said Marty Owens, head track and field coach. "Along with his athletic achievements and academic achievements, Mike has also been a tremendous leader and role model for our younger athletes. After watching Mike over the past four years, I am sure he will continue to excel in all that he does."

The scholarship winners (29 men and 29 women) represent winter sports participants across all divisions who will receive one-time, nonrenewable grants of $7,500. The NCAA will name postgraduate scholars for spring sports later this year.

The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The Association awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.
