The Joy of Crusader Basketball

Susquehanna to Host Pepsi Day on Saturday Against Elizabethtown;
Fans to Receive Free Hot Dogs and Pepsi, Halftime Shootout Winner to Be Crowned

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Saturday is Pepsi Day at Susquehanna University as the Crusader men's and women's basketball teams will host rival Elizabethtown College in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.

All fans in attendance at the twinbill will be treated to free hot dogs and Pepsi, courtesy of the Pepsi-Cola Company in Selinsgrove, Weis Markets and Kunzler's Hot Dogs. The women's game begins at 1 p.m. while the men's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff.

In addition to the hot dogs and beverages, the final Pepsi Halftime Shootout of the 2000-2001 season will be held at intermission of the men's game, featuring all the previous Pepsi Shootout winners from men's and women's home games throughout the season.

Contestants will compete in an elimination format, being asked to make layups first, then free throws, and then three-point shots. Anyone missing will be eliminated, with all others shooting until a winner is determined.

The winner of the contest will receive a North American vacation package compliments of Pepsi. Pepsi officials provided funds two years ago for a high-fidelity sound system to be installed in Susquehanna's O.W. Houts Gymnasium.

The women's game should make a major impact on the Commonwealth Conference standings, as the third-place Crusaders (14-7 overall, 8-3 Commonwealth) are just one game behind the second-place Blue Jays (14-4, 9-2) with three games remaining in the regular season.

While the Crusader men (9-12, 2-9) have been eliminated from postseason contention, the Jays (17-4, 8-3) have won nine of their last 10 games and are just one game behind league-leading Widener in the Commonwealth Conference.
