MAC Names Kern to Basketball Honor RollSenior Standout Averages 24.5 Points and 11.0 Rebounds in Two Games
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University senior center Karyn Kern has been selected to the Middle Atlantic Conference Weekly Honor Roll in women's basketball for the week ending January 28, the conference announced Monday. Kern (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley H.S.), a two-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week who was also selected to the Honor Roll for the week ending January 14, averaged 24.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games for the Crusaders (12-6 overall, 6-3 Commonwealth Conference) last week. She posted game highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds in a 58-54 loss to nationally-ranked Messiah on Wednesday night, and followed with a season-best 26 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-54 win over Widener on Saturday. Kern continues to lead the Commonwealth Conference in rebounding at 10.9 boards per game and in blocked shots at 1.5 per contest. She is third in scoring average at 16.7 points per contest and fourth in the league in field-goal percentage at 55.1 percent. Kern's two double-doubles last week give her 10 in 18 games this season and 52 in her career at Susquehanna. In addition, she needs just four rebounds to tie the Susquehanna career record of 996 set from 1991 to 1995 by Megan Lytle, and she is eight rebounds shy of reaching 1,000 for her career. Susquehanna will be back in action on Tuesday evening with a 6 p.m. tipoff at Moravian College.
