Susquehanna Basketball to Host Community Night
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University will celebrate Community Night on Tuesday as all fans will be admitted free of charge to the Crusaders’ Commonwealth Conference basketball doubleheader against Juniata. The women’s game will begin at 6 p.m. while the men’s game tips off at 8 p.m. at O.W. Houts Gymnasium. Both the Crusader men’s and women’s teams will be looking for their first conference victories of the season, as the Susquehanna squads bring identical 5-6 overall marks and 0-2 Commonwealth records into the Juniata twinbill. The Crusader women are coming off a thrilling 83-81 victory over Rowan in the consolation game of the Lady Monarch Classic at King’s on Saturday as junior guard Emily Kurtz drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Susquehanna the come-from-behind win. Junior guard Alison Ream leads the Crusaders in scoring at 10.4 points per game while senior forward Amy Harrington is averaging 9.9 points per contest. Juniata (4-8 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) is paced by senior forward Brandy Preslovich, who averages 16.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The Susquehanna men lost to Wilkes 98-82 in the finals of the Colonel Classic on Saturday, the Crusaders’ third tournament final loss of the season. Sophomore guard Nick Griffiths was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 16.5 points in the tournament’s two games. Sophomore guard Chris Zimmerman is second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game and leads the Commonwealth Conference with 5.0 assists per contest. The Eagles (7-3, 1-1) are paced by sophomore forward Ben Gallagher, who averages 15.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Last season, the Crusaders swept the Eagles at Houts Gymnasium on January 17, as the women rallied from a 20-2 first-half deficit for a 63-44 win and the men edged the Eagles 57-55 on a Tim Hurd putback with 0.5 seconds left.
