Susquehanna Basketball to Host Pepsi Day
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Saturday is Pepsi Day at Susquehanna University as the Crusader men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Messiah College in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at O.W. Houts Gymnasium. All fans in attendance at the twinbill will be treated to free hot dogs and Pepsi, courtesy of the Pepsi-Cola Company in Selinsgrove, Weis Markets and Kunzler’s Hot Dogs. The women’s game begins at 1 p.m. while the men’s game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff. In addition to the hot dogs and beverages, the final Pepsi Halftime Shootout of the 2001-2002 season will be held at intermission of the men’s game, featuring all the previous Pepsi Shootout winners from men’s and women’s home games throughout the season. Contestants will compete in an elimination format, being asked to make layups first, then free throws, and then three-point shots. Anyone missing will be eliminated, with all others shooting until a winner is determined. The winner of the contest will receive a North American vacation package compliments of Pepsi. Pepsi officials provided funds three years ago for a high-fidelity sound system to be installed in Susquehanna’s O.W. Houts Gymnasium. The women’s game will see the Crusaders face off with the ninth-ranked Falcons, who entered the week tied for first place with Lebanon Valley in the Commonwealth Conference standings. On the men’s side, the Crusaders will look to solidify their fourth-place standing in the Commonwealth standings against a Messiah squad that upset Widener 83-80 on Tuesday night.
