SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University’s new field house will play host to its first intercollegiate track and field meet on Friday evening as six schools will take part in competition in the 51,000-square-foot facility.

The Crusader indoor track and field squads will host teams from Bloomsburg, Dickinson, Juniata, Messiah and Shippensburg in the non-scoring event, which will begin at 5 p.m.

A total of 12 track events and six field events for both men and women will be conducted during the meet, which will be the first of three events held on the six-lane, 200-meter track over an eight-day span.

On Saturday, Susquehanna will host a high school invitational at 11 a.m., and on February 23 the field house will be the site of the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field championships beginning at 12 noon.

The field house is part of The James W. Garrett Sports Complex, which includes the O.W. Houts Gymnasium and Clyde Jacobs Fitness Center, concessions stand, lounge area, sports medicine and training facilities, and an observation deck.

The facility, designed by Spillman Farmer Architects of Bethlehem, has earned a pair of design awards since its completion in 2001.

The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects presented Spillman Farmer with an Award of Excellence in Architectural Design at the group's annual banquet in December, and the design was among the winning architectural designs featured in a supplement in the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal in January.

The design was awarded a citation by the national American School and University magazine and showcased in its 2001 Architectural Portfolio, published in December.
