Nine Crusaders Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Nine Susquehanna University field hockey players have been honored with selection to the 2003 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, the NFHCA announced Tuesday. To be named to the National Academic Squad, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or better through the first semester of the 2003-04 academic year. In addition, the Susquehanna team was one of 68 schools recognized for maintaining a overall team grade-point average above 3.0 during the 2003 field hockey season. Earning National Academic Squad status from Susquehanna were freshman goalkeeper Shannon Baker (Dover, PA/Dover H.S.), a 4.00 business major; junior midfielder Jacqui DeLorbe (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant H.S.), a 3.73 marketing and finance major; senior midfielder Liz Harker (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata H.S.), a 3.93 chemistry major; and junior Holly Holgate (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail H.S.), a 3.59 elementary education major. Also, freshman midfielder Jenni Iacovone (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown H.S.), a 3.58 biology major; sophomore midfielder Caitlin Meara (Wilmington, DE/Concord H.S.), a 3.54 elementary education major; sophomore Shelley Reppert (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg H.S.), a 3.61 biochemistry major; freshman attack Ashley Rowell (Wilmington, DE/Concord H.S.), a 3.74 elementary education major; and junior defender Annie Shoemaker (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill H.S.), a 3.62 elementary education and Spanish major. The Crusaders finished with a 10-7 overall record and in fifth place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-3 league record under first-year head coach Amy Zimmerman .
