Sander Named to MAC Honor Roll
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University senior center Phil Sander has been named to the Middle Atlantic Conference men’s basketball honor roll for the week ending November 23, the conference office announced Monday. Sander (Hancock, NY/Walton Central H.S.) averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 73.7 percent from the field to earn Most Valuable Player honors as the Crusaders captured the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament with wins over Penn State Altoona on and King’s. Sander scored a career-high 17 points and added nine rebounds to lead Susquehanna to an 89-77 victory over Penn State Altoona on Friday night and followed up with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds as the Crusaders defeated King’s 73-61 to earn the tournament title on Saturday afternoon. He was named to the final MAC honor roll of last season after averaging 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of playoff games. The Crusaders (2-0 overall) will be in action on Saturday and Sunday at the Holiday Inn Airport Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester. Susquehanna will play RPI in the tourney opener on Saturday at 6 p.m. before concluding play on Sunday afternoon against either Wesleyan or the nationally-ranked host Yellowjackets.
