Houseal Named Commonwealth Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE , PA – Susquehanna University junior guard Val Houseal has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball, the conference office announced Monday.
Houseal (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) averaged 14.0 points off the bench as the Crusaders won two road games to clinch fourth place in the Commonwealth Conference. She scored a team-high 13 points in 22 minutes as the Crusaders defeated Juniata 62-57 on Thursday night, and picked up the scoring slack in the absence of the team's top two reserves by tallying 15 points in 19 minutes in a 64-49 win at Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
Houseal shot 11-for-21 from the field and nailed all four of her foul shots in the two wins, and for the season is averaging 6.2 points and 2.3 rebounds while playing just under 16 minutes per game off the bench for the Crusaders.
Susquehanna (15-10 overall, 6-8 Commonwealth) is seeded fourth in the conference playoffs and will play at top-seeded Messiah College in a semifinal game on Wednesday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
