Men's Soccer Players Earn More NSCAA Honors

SELINSGROVE, PA -- Already recognized with the team academic award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, three members of the Susquehanna University men's soccer team have now been tabbed for individual honors.

Junior co-captain and defender Isaac Laubach (Millville, Pa./Millville) was named to the 2007 College Scholar All-East Region first team and junior midfielder Matt Gawlas (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was named to the second team.

Laubach was also named to the All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team and freshman forward Rhyan Nelson (Manalpan, N.J./St. John Vianney) earned third-team all-region honors.

Laubach anchored a Susquehanna defense that allowed the fewest goals of any Landmark Conference team, and was third in the conference in shutouts. He was a first-team All-Landmark selection this season as he helped the Crusaders post a goals against average of 0.96. He also contributed two goals and an assist on the year. He was also on the Landmark Academic Honor Roll. A finance major, he posts a 3.8 GPA.

Gawlas was a second-team All-Landmark honoree. The junior mid-fielder was credited with two goals for this season and participated in all 18 games. He was also on the Landmark Academic Honor Roll and All-Academic Team. He holds a 3.9 GPA as a biology major.

Nelson was one of just four freshmen to earn a spot on the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team after a strong first season. He was the only freshman to earn first-team All-Landmark recognition as he scored six goals and added three assists in his first year. Nelson ranked in the top-10 in the conference in goals and points.
