Green with HonorsRoselle Catholic's Green MAC Commonwealth, WQSU-FM Player of Week Danville's Harrington on MAC Women's Honor Roll, Also WQSU Player of WeekSELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University sophomore small forward Corey Green (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Catholic H.S.) is this week's MAC Commonwealth Conference and WQSU-FM Crusader Men's Basketball Player of the Week as he averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting nearly 50.0 percent from the field (15 of 31) in leading his team to a pair of big conference wins. The Crusaders scored a 70-67 win at Juniata, and then upset the number-one team in the latest NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Region poll and the previously undefeated MAC Commonwealth leader with a 60-58 win over Albright Saturday. Sophomore small forward Amy Harrington (Danville/Danville H.S.) is on the MAC Honor Roll and also is this week's WQSU Crusader Women's Basketball Player of the Week as she averaged 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, also breaking the school record for three-point field goals in a season (now 25 of 82) as her team went 2-1. The Crusader women beat non-conference Muhlenberg (71-66) and Commonwealth foe Albright (58-55) – losing only a 95-88 overtime classic at conference rival Juniata. The 6-4 Green scored a game high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the overtime win at Juniata, and a team high 14 in Saturday's upset over Albright. He hit a three-pointer just :56 into the overtime for the lone points in the first 2:44 of the extra period. He also had a big 12-foot runner with 3:27 left to give Susquehanna a 52-49 lead Saturday, also setting the tone with a block of Albright's 6-8 sophomore forward Brenden Ferns 1:15 into the game. "Good for Corey (on being Player of the Week), he's certainly played big for us lately," said 11th-year Crusader head coach Frank Marcinek. "He's not only been scoring consistently for us and doing some other good things, he's been making some big shots when we really needed them." Green is second on the team in both scoring (11.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 per game). After not making a three-pointer in the first 30 collegiate games, Green has also gone 13 of 30 (43.3%) in the last five contests. A liberal arts major, he is the son of Theresa Green of Roselle. Susquehanna's won seven of its last eight games to get to 11-4 overall, 5-2 and tied for second in the MAC Commonwealth Conference going into Monday's home game with Scranton. The Crusaders were an Honorable Mention selection to the NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Region poll last week. Harrington had her best week at Susquehanna – surpassing her career high in scoring twice, also breaking the school record for three-pointers in a season. The effort made Harrington the team's WQSU-FM Crusader Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. She scored a career high 26 points while hitting a career high five three-pointers, in 13 attempts, also pulling down seven rebounds in Monday's 71-66 non-conference win over Muhlenberg. She surpassed that career best with 28 points while going 13 of 14 from the free throw line, dishing out a career high five assists and grabbing eight rebounds, in Wednesday's heartbreaking overtime loss at Juniata. Her three treys in that game gave her a new school season record, now with 25 of 82 (30.5%) (Old Record: 23 of 64, Kristie Maravalli, 1990-91). Harrington followed that by tying for team scoring honors with 12 points, grabbing seven rebounds, including the one she had off her own free throw miss in the closing seconds to preserve that win. She is a communications and theatre arts major and the daughter of Dr. Thomas and Patricia Harrington. The Crusader women are 10-5 overall, 4-3 and tied for third in the MAC Commonwealth Conference going into their game at first-place Messiah Wednesday at 6 p.m. As WQSU-FM (88.9 on the dial) Crusader Players of the Week, Green and Harrington will be featured on the station's Coaches' Corner Show this Saturday, January 29, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The show will be aired prior to the live broadcast of Susquehanna's MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Widener.
