SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Already MAC Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, Susquehanna University junior center Leslie Clementoni (Hughesville/Hughesville H.S.) is also on D3hoops.com's national Team of the Week, and is the Columbus Multimedia Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Week. She surpassed her career scoring high twice last week while averaging 26.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, leading the team to a split in two conference games.
The 6-1 Clementoni bettered her career scoring best in each game a week ago, netting 24 in a loss at MAC Commonwealth leader Messiah, and 29 while rallying her team from as many as 16 down for a critical win at Widener Saturday. She also had a team high nine rebounds at Messiah, and a game high 11 at Widener. In addition to her scoring and rebounding averages for the week, she shot 64.7 percent (22 of 34) from the field, and 75.0 percent (9 of 12) from the line.
This week, Clementoni tied her career high in rebounds with 15 in Tuesday's 66-59 MAC Commonwealth win over Moravian, also scoring a game high 23 points while going 11of 12 from the free throw line. She also had two blocks and three steals as her team rallied from 10 down for the win.
Clementoni leads the team in rebounding (8.4 per game) – now ranking third in the MAC Commonwealth Conference statistics – also topping it in field goal percentage (47.6%, 98 of 206) and steals (30/1.7 per game), while standing second in scoring (14.5 ppg). She has now scored in double figures in 16-straight games and has six double-doubles while having a breakout year since replacing star center and fellow senior tri-captain Karyn Kern (26.2 ppg, 13.2 rpg) (Brodheadsville/Pleasant Valley H.S.), who suffered a season-ending knee injury.
She is a journalism major and the daughter of Sue Rhodes of Hughesville, and Ron Clementoni, also of Hughesville.
The Crusader women are 12-6 overall, 6-4 and tied for third place in the MAC Commonwealth Conference and will play Saturday in a 6 p.m. game at arch-rival Lycoming, which is also 12-6.
