SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Fans attending Susquehanna University's women's basketball game Tuesday, February 8, and men's game on Wednesday, February 9 – both vs. MAC Commonwealth Conference rival Lebanon Valley – will be treated to free hot dogs and Pepsi, courtesy of the Pepsi-Cola Company in Selinsgrove, Weis Markets and Kunzler's Hot Dogs. The women's game will begin at 7 p.m., with the men's game scheduled for 8.
In addition to the hot dogs and beverages, additional Pepsi prize packages will be given away to certain lucky fans during the games. WKOK-AM, 94KX and Eagle 107 will also offer some special prizes at the games.
A highlight of the Wednesday men's game will be the final Pepsi Halftime Shootout, featuring all the previous Pepsi Shootout winners from men's and women's home games throughout the season competing one last time for a two-night luxury Bahamas cruise from Capital Cruises aboard the SS Dolphin IV. Contestants will compete in an elimination format, being asked to make layups first, then free throws, and then three-point shots. Anyone missing will be eliminated, with all others shooting until a winner is determined.
The cruise is for the winner and a guest on dates of their choice and will depart from Port Canaveral, Fla. – home of the Space Shuttle and the closest beach to Orlando and the Disney Theme Parks. The cruise will include gourmet dining-breakfast, lunch, a "Welcome" buffet, "Bon Voyage" and "Bahamas Farewell" dinners, and midnight buffets. The SS Dolphin IV has a full Las Vegas style casino, live calypso and show bands, disco on-deck parties and fine-art auctions, and offers special shore excursions. Special extended stay packages are also available.
Pepsi officials provided funds last season for a new, high-fidelity sound system to be installed in Susquehanna's O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
"We can't thank Pepsi enough for all their sponsorship of Crusader athletics. Their generosity has really helped to improve our facility through the sound system, and also continued to provide some added excitement at our basketball games through the halftime shootouts and the special Pepsi dates," said Susquehanna Director of Athletics Don Harnum. "I think it's safe to say that Pepsi has made a great impact on Crusader athletics."
The games on those nights should be hotly contested, with both the Crusader men's and women's teams presently battling with Lebanon Valley for the final MAC Commonwealth Conference playoff spot. The Crusader women are seeking their 11th-straight berth in the MAC playoffs and enter Saturday's game at rival Lycoming at 12-6. The Susquehanna men hope to get back to the playoffs after missing them last season and will take a 12-7 mark into the game at Lycoming Saturday.
