A Second Helping of Crusader Soccer

Salgado and Saladino (Men's) Join Anderson and Gilbert (Women's)
As Commonwealth Conference Second-Team All-Stars

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University has placed two men's and two women's soccer players on the 2000 Commonwealth Conference second All-Star teams, the conference announced Wednesday.

Senior midfielder Sal Saladino and junior midfielder Luis Salgado were selected as men's second-team All-Stars while junior forward Kim Anderson and senior midfielder Kristin Gilbert earned second-team honors on the women's side.

Saladino (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville H.S.) finished second on the team with 11 points on the strength of four goals and three assists in 17 matches. He helped the Crusaders (7-9-1 overall, 3-4 Commonwealth) win four of their last five matches as he scored three goals and dished out two assists in those five contests. Saladino also finished second on the team with 40 shots on goal.

Salgado (Neptune, N.J./Neptune H.S.) started all 17 matches and finished fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists for nine points. His 26 shots on goal ranked third on the team, and the Crusaders were 5-1 in matches in which he recorded a point.

Anderson (Baytown, Texas/Parkland (Pa.) H.S.) rewrote the Crusader women's soccer record book in 2000 as she set single-season records of 13 goals, six assists and 32 points in just 15 matches. Anderson led the Commonwealth Conference in goals per game (0.87) and her 2.13 goals per game ranked second in the conference.

She scored at least one goal in 10 of Susquehanna's 15 matches as the Crusaders enjoyed the best season in program history with a final record of 9-6-0 (3-4 Commonwealth). In three seasons, Anderson is the Susquehanna career leader in goals (31) and points (72).

Gilbert (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac H.S.) went scoreless in 15 matches but was a leader of a Susquehanna defense that posted four shutouts and allowed only 31 goals in 15 matches. A four-year letterwinner and tri-captain of the 2000 squad, Gilbert scored six goals and 13 points in 56 career matches.
