TWO NAMED VOLLEYBALL ALL-STARS, ESHLEMAN ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Capping off one of the best seasons in program history, Susquehanna University volleyball players Kerri Eshleman and Lydia Steward have been named to the Commonwealth Conference All-Star team as selected by the league’s eight head coaches. Eshleman was named the conference Rookie of the Year in addition to earning first-team All-Star honors, while Steward was a second-team All-Star choice. Together, they helped the Crusaders to a 23-8 overall record (5-2 Commonwealth) under ninth-year head coach Bill Switala. Eshleman (Landisville, PA/Hempfield H.S.) played in all of the team’s 108 games and recorded 235 digs, 384 kills, 97 solo blocks, and 26 aces. She led the team and finished fourth in the Commonwealth Conference in kills, and she set a new single-season school record in kills per game (3.56). Eshleman also led the team and finished second in the conference in solo blocks per game, and she finished fourth in digs per game (2.18). Steward (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola H.S.) played in 103 of the team’s 108 games and finished with 461 digs, the second-highest total in school history which was bettered only by her 2000 total of 468. She finished with 275 kills, placing second on the team in kills per game (2.67), and also recorded 75 aces and tied for third in aces per game (0.57). Steward, who finished her career second in school history with 1,139 digs, placed second in the Commonwealth Conference in digs per game (4.48), sixth in aces per game (0.57) and 10th in kills per game (2.67).
