Weekly QB Club Luncheon Moved to Susquehanna Valley Country Club Fri.
SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) - The Susquehanna University Quarterback Club football luncheon meeting scheduled for this Friday, October 2, has been moved from the private dining rooms in Susquehanna's Degenstein Campus Center to the dining room at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. The move has been facilitated by a space conflict in the campus center Friday.
As always, Quarterback Club will begin at 12 noon and feature ninth-year Crusader head football coach Steve Briggs, defensive coordinator Tim Briggs, and this week's Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week in senior fullback Matt Wichlinski (Claymont, Del./Brandywine H.S.), as well as junior halfback Jose Delgado (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic H.S.).
Wichlinski was on this week's MAC Honors Roll after rushing for the eighth-most yards in a game at Susquehanna last Saturday against Division III power Allegheny, gaining 170 yards on 25 carries with two touchdown runs, also scoring on a 28-yard touchdown reception. The three scores also made the 5-6, 200-pound "Claymont Cannonball" the school's career scoring leader with 186 points, and he pushed his career rushing record to 2,486 yards on just 445 carries (5.6 avg.). Delgado, meanwhile, returned two kickoffs 56 yards apiece to set up two scores, also rushing for 48 yards on 10 carries and catching two passes for 11 yards.
Ron Laniewski, a former Crusader player and present manager of the Golden Corral Family Restaurant in Shamokin Dam, will present a $100 check from Golden Corral in the name of Wichlinski to his favorite charity. Thus far, Golden Corral has donated $800 to area charities on behalf of the Crusader Players of the Week over the past two seasons.
The meetings are open to the public and cost $6.50 each week for lunch. Quarterback Club membership for the year is $20. Quarterback Club members receive tickets to the club's annual post-season awards' banquet.
