Two Times in Three Weeks

Brandywine's Wichlinski Repeats on MAC Honor Roll, as Team Player of the Week

SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) -- Susquehanna University senior All-American fullback Matt Wichlinski (Claymont, Del./Brandywine H.S.) is on the Middle Atlantic Conference Football Honor Roll for his play in a losing effort during last Saturday's 35-30 loss to Allegheny.

Wichlinski also earned the team's Gus Weber/Golden Corral Crusader Player of the Week Award for his efforts and will have $100 donated to an area charity in his name, courtesy of the Golden Corral Family Restaurant of Shamokin Dam. It is the second time in three games that Wichlinski has been both team Player of the Week and a selection on the MAC Honor Roll.

Last Saturday, he displayed once again why he is legitimate candidate for both the Gagliardi and Melberger Awards as the top player in Division III. All he did was rush for the eighth-most yards in a game at Susquehanna against one of the top Division III programs in the nation, gaining 170 yards on 25 carries with two touchdown runs, also scoring on a 28-yard touchdown reception. The three scores also made the 5-6, 200-pound "Claymont Cannonball" the school's career scoring leader with 186 points, and he pushed his career rushing record to 2,486 yards on just 445 carries (5.6 avg.). He has the highest per-game rushing average in MAC history (108.0 yards per game), while his per-carry average (5.6 avg.) is third-best in the conference all-time, and fifth-best at Susquehanna. His 28 rushing touchdowns also tie him for third most in MAC modern history (Record: 32, Jim Joseph, 1982-85). He also has the fourth-most carries all-time at the school (Record: 549, Hank Belcolle, 1980-83).

He is second in the MAC in rushing this season with 406 yards on 70 carries (5.8 avg./135.3 yards per game), also tying for the conference lead in touchdown scoring with seven for 42 points (14.0 points per game).

A public relations major, Wichlinski is the son of Sheila Wichlinski, now of West Chester.
