A Familiar "Face" in SI

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University Director of Athletics and head golf coach Don Harnum is one of the six "Faces in the Crowd" in the June 5, issue of Sports Illustrated.

Now in his 11th season as head coach of the Crusader golf program, Harnum is in the publication for recently directing his team to its sixth-straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship as it shot a 54-hole total of 955 for a 10-shot victory at historic Shawnee Country Club. The championship was the team's seventh title in Harnum's tenure (1992, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000) – and it went going on to earn its third-straight berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, and fourth in five years. Harnum is also cited as the winningest men's basketball coach in school history with 201 wins. He directed the Crusader men's basketball program to a 201-153 record (.568) with three NCAA Division III Tournament berths and two MAC Northern Division titles during his 14-year head coaching tenure (1969-71, 76-87, 88-89).

One of Harnum's sons, Don Harnum Jr., was an All-American basketball player at Susquehanna for his father before graduating in 1986. He is now head men's basketball coach at Division I Rider University.

Harnum is in his 20th year as Susquehanna's director of athletics. A native of Brewer, Maine, he earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education from the University of Maine in 1962 – playing both football and basketball while he worked on his degree. He earned his master's of education degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Delaware in 1964.

He and his wife Connie reside in Selinsgrove. Connie Harnum is the head field hockey coach and assistant director of athletics at Susquehanna.
