MAC Honors for Susquehanna's Record-Setter

Severna Park's Jenkin MAC Women's Lax Player of Week After Breaking Goal Record

SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) - Susquehanna University senior third home and co-captain Sandy Jenkin of Millersville, Md. (Severna Park High School) is the Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week as she scored five goals and had three assists - breaking the school record for career goals in the process - as her team won both of its games last week. Jenkin's goal with 6:10 left in Saturday's 14-3 home rout of MAC rival FDU-Madison gave her the school record with 95 career goals (Old Record: 94, Cheryl Irvine, 1993-96).

Jenkin had four first half goals as Susquehanna built a 10-2 halftime lead on its way to a 15-7 rout over visiting Beaver last Tuesday. She added an assist in that game, and had two more Saturday to go along with her goal. She is Susquehanna's scoring leader this season with 23 goals and 11 assists for 34 points - ranking fifth in the MAC in scoring (4.25 ppg), this in assists (1.38 per game) and sixth in goals (2.88 per game).

An MAC All-Star in each of her first three seasons and likely to make it four for four this year, she had already broken Susquehanna's career scoring and assist records - now with 95 goals and 25 assists for a record 120 points in 47 career games at Susquehanna (2.55 ppg).

"What was great about the record-breaking goal (Saturday) was that it was just such a beautiful goal. They (FDU-Madison) were really double and triple-teaming her all day and she had to beat about three people to score that goal," said second-year Susquehanna head coach Gina Lucido. "Like she's been doing all year, when she couldn't score herself, she elevated her game and set some people up Saturday with two assists. That's one of the things that's been most impressive this year is that we've always known her as a scorer, but this year she's also leading us in assists."

Also a four-year letterwinner and two-year tri-captain on the women's basketball team, Jenkin is the daughter of Joan and Roger Jenkin of Millersville.

Jenkin led Susquehanna to the program's first winning season in its nine-year varsity history last season - finishing 9-7 while making the inaugural MAC Championship Game. The Crusaders have won six-straight games and are presently 7-1 overall, 3-0 and tied for first in the MAC going into Tuesday's game at Messiah.
