SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) -- Former Susquehanna University All-American lineman and current assistant football coach Ron Miller has been named Susquehanna's new head men's lacrosse coach. The Crusaders begin their second varsity season next March.
Miller (left) replaces Scott Rynne, who resigned as head men's lacrosse coach and assistant football coach to become the head men's lacrosse coach at Union (N.Y.) College after two seasons with the Crusaders. Rynne posted a 1-12 (.077) record at Susquehanna in his lone varsity campaign in 2000 after fashioning a 4-3 (.571) mark during the 1999 club season.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of working with a new program and building upon what coach Rynne has done," said Miller. "One of my goals is to continue to work hard on recruiting quality players to the program."
Miller, a native of Marion Heights, Pa. and a 1989 graduate of Mount Carmel High School, served as an assistant coach for the men's lacrosse club team at Wagner (N.Y.) College during the 1994 season.
During his football career, Miller was a first-team MAC All-Star at offensive guard as both a junior and senior at Susquehanna, earning “special mention” All-American honors according to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette as a senior. During his final two years, he helped the Crusaders record two of their most successful seasons — going 11-2 and making the NCAA semifinals in 1991, and 9-1 while just missing the playoffs in 1992. A two-year letterwinner and senior captain, he earned his bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1993.
After graduation, Miller also served as an assistant coach for one year at both Wagner and Emporia State (Kan.) University. He coached the defensive line at Wagner and wide receivers at Emporia State. He then went to Wilkes University in 1995 and coached the quarterbacks and receivers for three years.
Upon returning to his alma mater in 1998, Miller served as offensive line coach during his initial season before becoming offensive coordinator prior to the start of the 1999 season. Miller will continue as an assistant coach in football in addition to his duties as head men's lacrosse coach.
"Ron brings with him a reputation as an excellent coach," said Susquehanna Director of Athletics Don Harnum. "His experience in lacrosse should keep our program headed in the right direction."
In addition to his coaching duties, Miller has served as associate director of Susquehanna 2000: The Next Challenge Capital Campaign since July 1999.
He resides in Selinsgrove.
