The Annual Alumni Grudge Match

1999 Susquehanna Women's Volleyball Team Takes on Alumni Sat. at 1 p.m.

SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) – The Susquehanna University women's volleyball team will conduct its final tune-up for the 1999 season on Saturday, August 28, playing its annual match vs. a team of alumni at 1 p.m. in O.W. Houts Gymnasium. As with all their matches, the event is free and open to the public.

Under seventh-year head coach Bill Switala, the women's volleyball team made the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs for just the fourth time in program history last season – winning its first-round match before finishing at 14-15. Six letterwinners and four starters return from that team, led by 5-11 sophomore middle blocker and returning second-team MAC Commonwealth League All-Star Sarah Lauro (Collegeville/Villa Maria Academy). The team's senior co-captains are both outside hitters in Jenn Ashton (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro H.S.) and Missy Kuruzovich (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop H.S.).

While the alumni roster has not been confirmed, past matches have included such players as former MAC All-Stars Tracey (Eckholm) Druckenmiller '92, Jodi (Henry) Hoover '91, Michelle (Liechty) Hoffman '96, Julie (Dills) Jansky '95, and 1998 Susquehanna Sports Hall of Fame inductee Tracy Gillin '89.

"We'll find out a lot more about our team at the alumni match. I think we're looking forward to seeing how our players perform in a match situation against another team," said Switala.

The Crusader women's volleyball team will open its 1999 season on Saturday, September 4, at the Franklin & Marshall College Tournament.
