Mennito Makes MAC Honor Roll

Catoctin Grad Also WQSU-FM Crusader Player of Week as He Nears Trey Mark

SELINSGROVE, (Pa.) - Senior forward Tony Mennito (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin H.S.) is on this week's Middle Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Honor Roll as he averaged 23.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in last week's split against two of the conference's top teams. Also the team's WQSU-FM Crusader Player of the Week, Mennito shot 56.3 percent from the field (18 of 32) and 44.4 percent from three-point range (8 of 18) during the week.

The 6-4, 180-pound Mennito scored a career high 29 points while canning 6 of 12 treys and grabbing a season high nine rebounds in Saturday's win over 15-4 Lycoming. He had 22 points on 4 of 8 three-point shooting while helping the team open a 43-27 halftime lead in that game. Mennito also scored 17 points and went 7 of 14 from the field in the loss at Commonwealth League-leading Lebanon Valley Wednesday.

Mennito is second all-time at Susquehanna in career three-pointers made with 153 (out of 400), leaving him just four shy of the record (Record: 156, of 442, Matt Heimbach, 1992-96). Third on the team in scoring (12.5 ppg), he is now the team leader in three-pointers this season (48 of 118) to rank eighth in the MAC in per-game average (2.5 per game) and 10th in percentage (40.7%). He also averages 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game this season.

"Tony's had a good year all-and-all. If you go back to our preseason, he was one of the guys who was knocking down shots throughout the preseason. He had a good first semester, and the last three or four weeks - he's played big," said 10th-year Susquehanna head coach Frank Marcinek.

Mennito is an Academic All-America candidate as a biology major with a pre-med emphasis, and is the son of Vincent and Elaine Mennito of Thurmont. He has already been accepted to dental school at Temple University. Now 7-12 overall, 4-6 in the Commonwealth League, Susquehanna will try and keep its playoff hopes alive in its next game at league rival Messiah Wednesday at 8 p.m.
