SELINSGROVE, PA – Senior Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) scored four of Susquehanna’s five goals on Saturday, to end his college career with a total of 97 points in his Crusader uniform. Fellow senior Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) added the fifth of the day for the orange and maroon in the 19-5 loss to conference opponent, Goucher College.

In the season finale, the teams were competitive in the first period as the 15 minutes dwindled from the clock with Goucher leading 2-1 entering the second stint of play.

Amidst the second and third shifts, the Gophers managed to upend the Crusaders 13-1. Despite scoring woes early in the game, Susquehanna finished strong with three Walters goals in the fourth with the final goal at 4:38 coming from a Greg Norris (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris) assist.

In addition to Walters’ efforts, Susquehanna was led by seniors Luke Burtnett (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) with five ground balls apiece, while Jamie Houghton tallied 10 for the Gophers. Torie finishes his tenure with 147 career ground balls. The Gophers were led by Dave Duff with five goals and an added assist.

Senior Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor), junior Mike Finne (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and freshman Stefan Morelli (Golden, Colo./Golden) all shared time in goal for Susquehanna. Ryan made 16 saves, yet suffered the loss in his final suit up as a Crusader. Chris Stricklin played 46 minutes in goal for the Gophers to record the win.


April 19: USMMA 15, Susquehanna 5 Box Score

KINGS POINT - On Saturday, the Crusaders travelled to the United States Merchant Marine Academy where they dropped a 15-5 conference loss to the Mariners.

En route to their fifth straight win, the Mariners scored nine unanswered first half goals to tally a dominating halftime lead.

The Crusaders battled back scoring five in the second, but time ran too short for a comeback. Merchant Marine added an additional three goals to their margin in the first four minutes of the third period. Susquehanna managed their first of five at the 11:05 mark when Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./ Pittsford-Sutherland) assisted Henry Weismantel (Chatham, N.J./Chatham High) in a play that resulted from a Sean Belt (Bedminster,N.J./Bernards) faceoff win.

Minutes passed before the Mariners netted another. As time dwindled in the third, the Crusaders scored two more to trail 13-3 at the break. At 1:18 Greg Norris (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris) was successful on an extra-man opportunity when fed the ball from Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth).

Following the goal, the teams reconvened at the half where Conor Buckley (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) won the faceoff for the Crusaders. After a saved shot, the Mariners returned the ball to their offensive end moments before turning the ball over to Colin Fadrowski (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill). Fadrowski scooped up a ground ball and carried it the length of the field to score Susquehanna’s third of the day with 41 seconds left in the period.

The Mariners and Crusaders shared goals in the fourth, scoring two each. Susquehanna added their third in a row at 9:39 when Weismantel scored off a Tom Thayer (Belle Mead, N.J./Immaculata) pass. Within seconds, the Crusaders netted their fifth and final goal of the day as Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) picked up a groundball that resulted from the faceoff that followed Weismantel’s goal and ran it down for an unassisted goal.

The Mariners responded to Susquehanna’s four straight with two of their own to put the game away for good.

Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) led the Crusaders with six ground balls, while Belt was successful in 13 of 18 faceoff attempts.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor) suffered the loss in goal for Susquehanna (3-11, 1-4 Landmark) as Robert Boyd captured the win for Merchant Marine (8-6, 4-2 Landmark).


April 16: Crusaders mauled by Bears in non-conference action Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team dropped a 14-1 loss to non-conference opponent, Ursinus College on Wednesday evening.

Junior Matt Trimble (West Chester, Pa./Archmere Academy) scored the Crusader’s lone goal at 9:51 in the third period off a Sam Jayne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) assist.

The Bears jumped off to a strong start scoring four apiece in the first and second stints of play before convening at the half with a dominating 8-0 lead.

Susquehanna opened scoring in the second half as Trimble found the back of the net; however Ursinus responded with six unanswered goals to end the game with a 14-1 advantage.

The Bears won 11 of 19 faceoffs while the Crusaders earned the other eight wins, three coming from Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) and five from Sean Belt (Bedminster,N.J./Bernards). Collin Fadrowski (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) led the orange and maroon defense with four groundballs.

With the win, Ursinus improved to 6-8 overall while Susquehanna dropped to 3-10 on the season.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor) played the first 24:46 in goal, making 11 saves. Mike Finne (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) relieved Ryan to make seven saves, before Stefan Morelli (Golden, Colo./Golden) finished out the final 5:46, making one save.


April 12: Crusaders defeated by Drew, 18-6 Box Score

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team suffered an 18-6 conference defeat at the hands of Drew University Saturday. The Rangers remain perfect in Landmark play (5-5 overall) while the Crusaders fall to 1-3 in the conference (3-9 overall).

Greg Norris (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris) scored three goals for Susquehanna, while Tim Storck (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) tallied one apiece. Freshman Jimmy Warburton (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored the first goal of his collegiate career, a man-down goal early in the third period.

Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) led the Crusaders with nine ground balls in the game, and Sean Belt (Bedminster,N.J./Bernards) won 7-of-14 faceoffs.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor) played 56:30 in goal, making 18 saves. Stefan Morelli (Golden, Colo./Golden) covered the last 3:30 but faced no shots.


April 9: York 8, Susquehanna 5 Box Score

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team dropped and 8-5 decision to non-conference opponent York College on Wednesday afternoon as Sassafras Field.

Susquehanna opened the first period strong with back-to-back goals from Tim Storck (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and Matt Trimble (West Chester, Pa./Archmere Academy) with assists from Greg Norris (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris) and Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./ Pittsford-Sutherland), respectively. Taking a 2-0 lead at 6:49, the Crusaders allowed two Spartan goals, knotting the game at 2-2 with 50 seconds of play lingering in the first. Susquehanna composed themselves and responded with a buzzer-beater just in the nick of time, to take a 3-2 lead into the second stint of play.

In the second, the Spartans would score three unanswered goals to take a 5-3 advantage at the half.

Returning from the break, York added an additional two goals in the third to retain their hefty lead and tagged on another at 14:45 in the fourth to lead by five, 8-3. The Crusaders found a spark at 10:35 as Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) assisted Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) for Susquehanna’s fourth of the day. The orange and maroon would again find the back of the net at 2:45 as Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) was unassisted in scoring the game’s final goal.

The Crusaders ignited their scoring a little late, as time expired with a three goal deficit remaining. The Spartans improved to 8-6 overall with the 8-5 victory, while the Crusaders fell to 3-8 overall while sitting at 1-2 in the Landmark Conference.

Walters led the Crusaders, winning 3 of 7 faceoffs, while Eric Burkhard (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scooped up six ground balls. Susquehanna was outshot 34-18 by the Spartans.

In goal, Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor) played the first three quarters of the game making five stops. Mike Finne (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) relieved him in the fourth to tally four saves of his own. Matt Keeler recorded the win for the Spartans.

 

April 5: Second half run too much for Crusaders Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was a tale of two halves as the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team fell to Landmark Conference opponent Catholic University Saturday. Both teams could only manage two goals in the first half, but the Cardinals (5-5, 1-1 Landmark) scored seven unanswered in the third period en route to a 12-3 win over the visiting Crusaders (3-7, 1-2 Landmark).

Susquehanna opened scoring with a Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) strike at 9:52 in the first period. Tim Storck (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) added the second goal halfway through the second quarter.

That would be all the Crusader scoring while the Cardinals went on a 10-goal run. Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) added one more for Susquehanna on a Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./ Pittsford-Sutherland) assist.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor) played almost 56 minutes in goal, saving six shots. Mike Finne (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and Stefan Morelli (Golden, Colo./Golden) each played two minutes, with Finne stopping the only shot that came at him. Walters was 4-of-7 on faceoffs and Conor Buckley (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) was 3-of-4.


April 2: Stockton holds of late Susquehanna kick Box Score

POMONA, N.J. – Despite a valiant five-goal fourth period, the Crusaders (3-6) fell 9-8 to the Osprey of Richard Stockton College (5-4) on Wednesday afternoon.

After Richard Stockton recorded one first period goal, Susquehanna opened scoring with a Matt Trimble (West Chester, Pa./Archmere Academy) goal at 13:16 in the second to knot the game at one. The teams again swapped goals and were tied at two with 9:15 remaining. Stockton then scored four straight to own a four point lead at intermission.

With the score 6-2 at the half, both teams managed a third period goal to leave the four goal margin intact. Stockton scored the first of the seven last quarter goals to lead 8-3 with 11:33 of play remaining. Tim Stork (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) responded at 10:06 and Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) followed 13 seconds later, allowing Susquehanna back-to-back goals to bring the orange and maroon within three, 8-5.

The Osprey would score their ninth, and game-winning, goal with 6:05 on the clock to re-implement a four-goal lead. Crusader Greg Norris (St. Catherines, ONT/Denis Morris) answered with a hat-trick scoring at 5:01, 4:40 and 2:11.

With a chance at a game-tying goal, Norris shot in the final moments of the game and hit the post. The gasping crowd held their breath as Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) scooped up Norris’ post-deflected shot, allowing Storck a final shot on goal. Storck’s shot was slightly wide enabling the Ospreys to hold on for a 9-8 non-conference victory.

Norris paced Susquehanna with three goals and two assists, while Stork netted two goals for the Crusaders. Susquehanna goalie Kirk Ryan (Wayne, PA/Radnor) recorded eight saves in the game.

Matt Bell led the Ospreys with three goals and Jonathan Kelly notched two goals and an assist. Stockton goalie Pete Marcelliano registered nine saves in the victory.
 

March 29: Crusaders get Landmark win from Greyhounds Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa.. – The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team got a 12-6 Landmark Conference win over Moravian College at Rocco Calvo Field on Saturday. The Crusaders (3-5) move to .500 in conference play while the Greyhounds (4-5) fall to 0-2.

Moravian struck first but Susquehanna answered with a five-goal run that went into the second quarter. Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) scored the first two of those unassisted, then Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) added on on an assist from Fred Morse (Rochester, NY/ Pittsford-Sutherland). Sam Jayne (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) took a pass from Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) to start the second quarter and Burns then tallied another goal for a 5-1 Crusader lead.

The Greyhounds pulled within three at 7:44, then the Crusaders added two straight man-up goals. The first came on a Shane Enos (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) pass to Norris, the second from Walters to Tim Storck (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney), which put Susquehanna up 7-2 at the half.

It took almost 10 minutes, but Moravian again drew first blood in the third quarter. Susquehanna responded four minutes later when Walters found Tom Jakubowski (Royersford, PA/Spring Ford) to keep the Crusader advantage at five.

Robert Devine added back-to-back Greyhound goals early in the fourth period to pull within three. Burns then added his fourth goal of the day and Storck returned the favor to Walters. Jakubowski added an unassisted goal and after a last Moravian goal, Walters got his second of the day on an assist from Dan Torie (Wexford, PA/North Alleghany).

Torie led the Crusaders with eight ground balls, while senior goalie Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa/Radnor) played all 60 minutes and made 17 saves.
 

March 26: Walters scores all four goals in Crusader loss Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va.. – Senior midfielder Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) had a valiant four-goal effort, but the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team fell to Marymount University (Va.), 9-4, on Wednesday. The Crusaders are now 2-5 (0-1 Landmark) while the host Saints improved to 5-4.

Walters drew first blood, taking a Tim Storck (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) pass at 14:10 in the first quarter to put the Crusaders up 1-0. Marymount's Danny Carson added the first of his own four goals to pull the Saints even, then scored again along with Kevin Conklin for a 3-1 halftime advantage.

The second half started much the same as the first as Walters got the first goal, this time on an assist from Sam Jayne (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams). The Saints scored twice more leading in to the fourth period before Walters took a Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) pass to pull back within two.

Marymount would then rattle off four straight goals to ice the game before Walters and Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) connected as time expired.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) made 11 saves for Susquehanna despite taking the loss in net. Walters also led the Crusaders with four ground balls and two of the team's five faceoffs won.
 

March 21: Susquehanna falls to No. 17 Union Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa.. – A 10-goal first half helped the No. 17 Union College men's lacrosse team to a 13-5 win over Susquehanna University Friday night.

The two teams played even in the second half, scoring three goals apiece, but the early eight-goal advantage held for the Dutchmen, who remained undefeated on the season. Susquehanna falls to 2-4.

Union struck first, scoring just 53 seconds into the game, then followed up four minutes later. The Crusaders got back within one a minute after that as Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) scored unassisted to make it 2-1.

The Dutchmen added two more goals for a 4-1 advantage after one period, then scored six more unanswered goals. Burns added his second goal of the night on a pass from Ryan Walters (Easton, Pa./Easton) just 13 seconds before halftime to make the score 10-2 at the break.

Susquehanna added two more goals to start the third period as Walters got a goal of his own then assisted on a Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) shot to make it 10-4. The Dutchmen then rattled off two more goals before the end of the third.

Scoring quieted down in the final period, as neither team found the net until Union scored with 1:02 left to go in the game. Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) answered for the Crusaders with 16 seconds left in the game for the final goal of the night.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) went the distance in net for Susquehanna, making nine saves.
 

March 19: Crusaders falls in inaugural Rumble on the River Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa.. – Continuing a theme of rivalry-game trophies that started in the fall, the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team faced off against Lycoming College in the first "Rumble on the River." The Warriors did most of the rumbling, however, coming away with a 15-2 win.

The Lycoming team of Rick DeNenno and Ed Williams was particularly lethal to the Crusaders, pairing for six goals. On the day, DeNenno accounted for seven goals and an assist to lead the Warrior scoring attack.

Lycoming struck early in the first period, but Susquehanna answered with a Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) goal at the 11:31 mark. That would be all the scoring for the Crusaders until 3:38 in the third, when Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) scored an unassisted goal.

Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) led the Crusaders with five ground balls, while Sean Belt (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) took five of Susquehanna's seven faceoffs won.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) made seven saves for Susquehanna and Mike Finne (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) added two. Freshman keeper Stefan Morelli saw four minutes of action late in the game but did not face any shots.
 

March 15: Royals take Landmark opener from Crusaders Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa.. – The game was close through the first half, but a five-goal scoring barrage in the third period felled the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team, as the University of Scranton went on to a 10-6 Landmark Conference opener win Saturday.

Scranton scored the first three goals of the game before Susquehanna's Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) took a pass from Ryan Walters (Easton, PA/Easton) at 11:47 in the second period. The Royals went up 4-1 a minute later, but Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and Sam Jayne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) each scored an unassisted goal - Jayne's coming with the Crusaders a man down - to keep Susquehanna within one at the half.

The teams traded goals to open the second half, with Scranton scoring first and Colin Fadrowski (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) answering. The Royals then scored five unanswered goals, three from Thomas Kornobis, to take a 10-4 lead early in the fourth period.

Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland) added two more Crusaders goals, the second on an assist by Henry Weismantel (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), but the Royal defense prevailed for the win.

The Crusaders were just 4-of-20 on faceoffs, with Sean Belt (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) successfully taking 3-of-6. Norris and Fadrowski led the team with four ground balls apiece.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) played all 60 minutes in net, making 23 saves.
 

March 12: Susquehanna beats King's in home opener Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa.. – The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team opened its 2008 home slate with a convincing 14-5 win over King's College Wednesday.

The Monarchs kept it close after one period with the Crusaders holding just a 5-2 advantage, but Susquehanna shut out King's for the next two periods while adding seven more goals to seal the victory. King's added three goals in the final period, as Susquehanna scored two more.

Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris), who scored the first goal of the game at 10:26 in the first, had three goals total on the day and an assist. Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) added the second strike on his way to a two-goal, three-assist day.

Ryan Walters (Easton, PA/Easton), Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland), Tim Storck (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) each scored two goals for the Crusaders, and Sam Jayne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) had one. Morse, Walters, Dan Torie (Wexford, Pa./North Alleghany) and Matt Trimble (West Chester, Pa./Archmere Academy) each added an assist.

The Crusaders were 15-of-23 on faceoffs, with Walters going 7-of-9 and Brown 6-of-9. Rick Kondub (Stamford, Conn./King and Low-Heywood Thomas) led Susquehanna with six ground balls, while Brown and Torie each had five.

Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) played almost the entire game in goal, making eight saves for the win (2-0). Mike Finne (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) came in for the final 2:19 and made a stop.

Susquehanna opens Landmark Conference play on Saturday, hosting Scranton at 1 p.m.

 

March 6: Susquehanna drops game to Elizabethtown Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – Competing at the home of the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University, the Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team fell to the Elizabethtown College on Wednesday evening. Elizabethtown jumped off to a commanding 4-1 lead in the first period and continued to dominate throughout the next three to beat the Crusaders 14-4.

Susquehanna managed a goal per period tallying one apiece for Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland), Ryan Walters (Easton, PA/Easton), Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) and Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth). Senior attack Shane Enos (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) was given credit for an assist on the fourth Crusader goal of the day.

After Morse broke Susquehanna’s scoring silence at 8:28, Elizabethtown scored three straight until Walters struck at 6:03 in the second period to bring the score to 6-2. The Blue Jays responded scoring five consecutive goals to jump ahead 11-2 with 7:23 remaining in the third session of play.

Norris was unassisted at 3:32 to tally the Crusader’s third goal of the evening. The Blue Jays opened the final stint of action with a goal at 13:38 which was followed by Brown’s goal less than one minute later. With Brown’s goal, the orange and maroon scoring ceased as Elizabethtown went on to score two additional times to finalize the score at 14-4.

Senior co-captain Dan Torie (Wexford, PA/North Alleghany) led Susquehanna with six ground balls, while junior defender Colin Fadrowski (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) added five.

Elizabethtown’s Jon Day led the game in goals scoring five while teammate Josh Dougherty added three and Ryan McCafferty tallied four assists for the Blue Jays.

The Crusaders won 7-of-21 faceoffs in the game, as junior Conor Buckley (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) went 7-for-19. Goalkeepers Kirk Ryan and Mike Finne split the game for the Crusaders playing 31:31 and 28:29 respectively, while Chris Schuch and Hunter Malick tended goal for the Blue Jays.

The Crusaders next face off on March 12 when they host King's College 4 p.m.

 

March 3: Twice-delayed opener nets Crusaders a win Box Score

WASHINGTON, Pa.– In a season opener that was delayed twice due to wintry field conditions, the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team got hot in the final two periods to clinch a 12-6 win over Washington and Jefferson Monday.

Sophomore midfielder Fred Morse (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford-Sutherland) opened the scoring at the 10:41 mark in the first period on an unassisted goal. The Presidents responded with three straight goals, but junior defender Colin Fadrowski (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) struck at 12:30 in the second period to lead off a six-goal barrage by the Crusaders.

Washington and Jefferson added two more to start the fourth period, then Susquehanna fired home four more goals, three straight in a period of 42 seconds by junior attack Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris). Both teams traded goals in the waning minutes of the game, Susquehanna's coming once again from Norris, who led the Crusaders on the day with four goals and three assists.

Junior midfielder Matt Trimble (West Chester, Pa./Archmere Academy) added two goals, while senior attack Shane Enos (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and sophomore midfielder Tom Jakubowski (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) chipped in a goal and an assist apiece. Also adding goals for the Crusaders were junior midfielder Brett Brown (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) and senior midfielder Greg Burns (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg).

Fadrowski led Susquehanna with seven ground balls, while freshman attack Harry Weismantel (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added six. Senior Kirk Ryan (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) played all 60 minutes in goal, making 10 saves.
