Susquehanna Men's Soccer Season Wrap-Up

2008 Susquehanna Valley Soccer Camp (PDF)

(Final Record 9-7-2 overall, 4-2-1 conference)

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team finished 9-7-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Landmark Conference, with five players garnishing all-conference honors, one of which whom was also named Rookie of the Year, under 10th year head coach Jim Findlay. Findlay is the winningest coach in the program's history compiling an 83-88-6 overall record during his 10 years at the helm.

Junior defender and Co-captain Isaac Laubach (Millville , Pa. /Millville HS) received first team all-conference honors. This season, Laubach started all 18 games for the Crusaders and was credited with two goals and one assist. Also joining Laubach on the first team is teammate Rhyan Nelson (Manalpan, N.J./St. John Vianney HS). The freshman forward played in all 18 games, was second on the team in goals with six, and tied for second on the team in assists with three.

Freshman back Jim Robertiello (Chester , N.J./West Morris Mendham) was named the 2007 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and second team all-conference. The newcomer saw action in every game this season, and was first on the team in goals with nine. Junior defender Dan Husko (Brick, N.J./St. Rose) was also named to the second team. Husko played in and started all 18 games. Crusader Matt Gawlas (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) rounded out the second team selection. The junior mid-fielder was credited with two goals for this season and participated in all 18 games.

The Crusaders' season abruptly came to a halt by a controversial play in double overtime during the opening round of the Landmark Conference playoffs where they were edged by the Drew University Rangers (12-7). The first and only goal of the game came in the 104th minute of play when a corner kick curled and bent across the top left post. Although it appeared that Crusader's freshman goalie B.J. Merriam (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) had knocked the ball clear, the linesman on the far side raised his flag and indicated that the ball had indeed crossed the plane.

Freshmen Matt Glackin (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and Merriam both split time in the goalie position this year and combined for a total of 99 saves, eight wins and four shutouts.
