WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made a game-high 10 saves for her sixth double-digit saves performance of the season, but visiting Susquehanna University was shut out, 4–0, by Landmark Conference opponent The Catholic University of America at CUA Upper Fields on Nov. 1.
Susquehanna (5–9–4, 2–3–1 Landmark) ended its season with the loss, tying for fifth in the Landmark, just shy of the fourth and final seed of the conference playoffs. Catholic (9–6–2, 4–1–1 Landmark) ties for first in the conference and takes the No. 2 seed into the postseason tournament.
Catholic got goals in the 15th, 22nd and 31st minutes for a 3–0 halftime lead. A goal with just eight seconds left in the second half provided the final margin.
The Crusaders couldn't get their offense going, as they managed just four shots. Three of those shots were on net, but each was stopped by the Cardinals goalkeeper.
Oct. 27 (River Derby): Susquehanna 1, Lycoming 0 Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made a game-high 11 saves, including a fully extended diving effort with the game on the line in the 74th minute, to shut out Lycoming College and help visiting Susquehanna University to a 1–0 non-conference win in the 2008 “River Derby” game at the Shangraw Complex on Oct. 27.
Susquehanna (5–8–4 overall) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 35th minute when sophomore midfielder Erinn Jenkins (Blakely, Pa./Valley View) corralled a loose ball off the hands of the Lycoming (5–7–4 overall) goalkeeper before notching her first goal of the season. Sophomore forward Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) picked up her first assist of the season on the play.
The Warriors goalie made five saves to keep the game close, but Tompeck was up to the task in picking up her third shutout and fifth double-digit saves performance of 2008.
The Crusaders were outshot, 18–14, but held a 3–1 advantage in corner kicks.
SU keeps possession of the River Derby Cup—a trophy annually played for between both teams. Susquehanna has won the last and only two River Derby games. Lycoming has not beaten Susquehanna since 1998.
Oct. 25 (Senior Day): Susquehanna 2, Drew 1 OT Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored the first and final goals of the game to lead Susquehanna University to a 2–1 overtime victory over Landmark Conference opponent Drew University during Senior Day at Sassafras Fields on Oct. 25.
Montgomery opened scoring for Susquehanna (4–8–4, 2–2–1 Landmark) in the 11th minute of play when she fired a ball through the arms of the diving Drew (7–5–3, 1–2–1 Landmark) goalkeeper.
At the 24-minute mark, the Rangers responded to knot the game at 1–1 after recovering a deflected shot in front of the Susquehanna cage and finding the back of the net.
Neither team scored in the second half before 10 minutes of sudden-victory overtime were put on the clock. The Crusaders needed only 52 more seconds though, as senior forward Karen Florio (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) found Montgomery’s feet for the "golden goal" in the 91st minute of play.
Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) tallied six saves during her final regular-season game on SU turf.
Oct. 22: Susquehanna 0, Juniata 2 Box Score
HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made three saves, but visiting Susquehanna University lost, 2–0, to Juniata College in a Landmark Conference game at Winton Hill Fields on Oct. 22.
Juniata (8–5–1, 2–3–0 Landmark) scored the eventual game-winning goal just 5 minutes, 2 seconds into the first half and added another goal in the 66th minute. The Eagles goalkeeper made two saves to keep Susquehanna (3–8–4, 1–2–1 Landmark) off the board.
Oct. 18: Susquehanna 1, Moravian 1 Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season to help lead visiting Susquehanna University (3–7–4, 1–1–1 Landmark) to a 1–1 tie with Landmark Conference opponent Moravian College (9–5–2, 1–1–1 Landmark) on Oct. 18.
Montgomery opened the scoring when she finished off an assist from Colleen Kelly (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) in the 65th minute.
The Greyhounds responded and tied the game in the 77th minute on an unassisted goal.
The teams remained knotted at one goal apiece after two overtime periods.

Oct. 15: Susquehanna 3, PSU–Harrisburg 0 Box Score
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and junior Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) both made one save to help visiting Susquehanna University blank PSU–Harrisburg, 3–0, in a non-conference game on Oct. 15.
Tompeck played the first 79 minutes, 39 seconds of the game before being replaced by Kemmerer, who played the final 10:21.
Three different players scored goals for Susquehanna (3–7–3 overall). SU outshot Harrisburg (4–7–0 overall), 21–6.
Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the in the 11th minute. Montgomery leads the Crusaders with six goals and 13 points.
Sophomore forward Alison Chavers (Freehold, N.J./Ranney School) followed with an unassisted goal of her own just 4:01 before halftime.
Senior midfielder Kirsten Sands (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) added more insurance when she finished off an assist from freshman defender Carly Inch (McAlisterville, Pa./East Juniata) in the 62nd minute. For Inch, the assist was her first collegiate point.
Oct. 11: Susquehanna 2, Rutgers–Camden 2 Box Score
CAMDEN, N.J. — Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored one goal and assisted on another to help lead visiting Susquehanna University to a 2–2 tie with Rutgers University–Camden in a non-conference game at Rutgers–Camden Community Park on Oct. 11.
Montgomery tied the game for Susquehanna (2–7–3 overall) by taking a through ball from senior forward Becky Smedley (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) and beating the Rutgers–Camden (6–8–1 overall) goalkeeper on a breakaway in the 57th minute.
Montgomery assisted on the game's opening goal just 4 minutes, 20 seconds into the first half. Her cross from the right of the Camden goal found sophomore midfielder Katie Brooks [Newtown Square, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)], who tapped the ball into the back of the net.
Camden tied the game when a midfielder scored after collecting a ball from a corner kick in the 30th minute.
Camden then took the lead when another midfielder scored in the 38th minute. The Lady Raptors attacker collected a loose ball in the box after a collision involving Susquehanna junior goalkeeper Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area).
Kemmerer made a game-high five saves in the first half before being replaced in net by senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph). Tompeck shut out Camden during the second half and both overtime periods by making four total saves. The Lady Raptors keeper made two saves in all 110 minutes.
Oct. 7: Susquehanna 0, Penn College 1 Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Junior Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) made two saves, but visiting Susquehanna University lost at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, 1–0, at the Penn College Soccer Field on Oct. 7.
Penn College (5–1–0 overall) scored the game's only goal in the 37th minute when one of its forwards collected her own rebound and tucked the ball behind Kemmerer.
Susquehanna (2–7–2 overall) outshot the Wildcats, 35–5, and had a 9–2 advantage in corner kicks but couldn't get a goal past the Penn College goalkeeper, who made 15 saves.
Penn College is ranked No. 1 in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer poll.
Oct. 4: Susquehanna 2, Goucher 0 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored on a penalty kick just 4 minutes, 46 seconds into the first half to lift Susquehanna University over visiting Goucher College, 2–0, in a Landmark Conference game at Sassafras Fields on Oct. 4. The game was part of Susquehanna’s 2008 Homecoming festivities.
Junior goalkeeper Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) made her first start this season and stopped three shots to earn the shutout behind a stingy Susquehanna (2–6–2, 1–1–0 Landmark) defense.
Goucher (4–4–1, 0–1–0 Landmark) was outshot, 20–3, including 12–2 in the first half. Twelve saves by the Goucher goalkeeper kept the game close.
Senior forward Karen Florio (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson–Fair Haven Regional) scored an important insurance goal with just 4:45 left in the first half. Florio put a shot into the top left corner of the Gophers goal to ice the game for SU. Junior midfielder Brooke Jones (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) assisted on the play.
The Crusaders took four corner kicks to Goucher’s two.
Oct. 1: Susquehanna 1, Wilkes 2 Box Score
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. — Sophomore forward Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) scored to tie the game in the 78th minute, but visiting Susquehanna University eventually lost to Wilkes University, 2–1, at the Ralston Complex on Oct. 1.
Briskey's goal came unassisted on a shot that sailed over the head of the Wilkes (5–5–1 overall) goalkeeper less than three-and-a-half minutes after the Colonels scored the game's opening goal in the 75th minute.
Susquehanna (1–6–2 overall) was not able to score again, but Wilkes did in the 81st minute off a header following a corner kick less than 3:30 after Briskey's goal.
The Colonels goalkeeper made two saves to earn the win. Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made four saves for the Crusaders.
Wilkes held a 19–5 advantage in shots but only a 6–5 lead in corner kicks.
Sept. 27: Susquehanna 0, Scranton 2 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made a game-high 11 saves — her second straight double-digit save performance and third of 2008 — but host Susquehanna University lost, 2–0, to The University of Scranton in a Landmark Conference women’s soccer game at Sassafras Fields on Sept. 27.
Tompeck kept Susquehanna (1–5–2, 0–1–0 Landmark) in the game despite being outshot, 23–1.
The Scranton (6–4–0, 1–0–0 Landmark) goalkeeper made one save to post the shutout.
The Royals scored the game’s first goal in the 32nd minute off a header and added insurance in the 49th minute.
Pouring rain in the second half helped prevent any Crusaders comeback.
Sept. 24: Susquehanna 0, Ursinus 0 Box Score
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Susquehanna University senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made 10 saves to preserve Susquehanna and host Ursinus College's 0–0 tie at Wilkes Field on Sept. 24.
Tompeck's 10 saves for SU (1–4–2 overall) were a game-high. The Ursinus (2–5–1 overall) goalkeeper made five saves. Both goalies were forced to make one save during overtime play.
The Bears outshot Susquehanna, 34-11, and came very close to scoring a few times, but the Crusaders defense was up to the task, including making a team save in the 48th minute.
The game ended prematurely due to darkness with 5 minutes, 30 seconds to play in the second overtime period.
Sept. 20: Susquehanna 0, Lebanon Valley 2 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Senior forward Karen Florio (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson–Fair Haven Regional) fired a game-high four shots, but she and Susquehanna University came up empty as visiting Lebanon Valley College won, 2–0, at Sassafras Fields on Sept. 20.
Lebanon Valley (3–3–1 overall) scored the game's first goal just 1 minute, 43 seconds into the second half on a shot to the right of Susquehanna (1–4–1 overall) senior goalkeeper Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph).
Tompeck finished the game with one save, while the Flying Dutchwomen's goalkeeper also made one.
A strange goal provided Lebanon Valley with some insurance. A Flying Dutchmen's shot glanced off a Susquehanna defender's head and past Tompeck in the 76th minute.
Lebanon Valley outshot the Crusaders, 7–6, and took five corner kicks to Susquehanna's two.
Sept. 16: Susquehanna 1, Dickinson 3 Box Score
CARLISLE, Pa. — Junior Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) and senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J/Randolph) combined to make 13 saves, but visiting Susquehanna University lost to Dickinson College, 3–1, at Dickinson Park on Sept. 16.
Kemmerer and Tompeck kept Susquehanna (1–3–1 overall) in the game despite being outshot, 27–4. Tompeck made five saves in the first half and allowed three goals. Kemmerer blanked Dickinson in the second half by making eight stops. The Red Devils (4–0–2 overall) goalkeeper made two saves.
Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored her third goal in the last two games when she made good on a penalty kick in the 71st minute. Montgomery leads the 2008 Crusaders with three goals and six points.
Susquehanna suffered a tough break on the game's opening goal. Tompeck inadvertently hit her own defender with the ball, and a Dickinson forward collected the loose ball to score unassisted just 6 minutes, 9 seconds into the game.
Dickinson scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 24th minute and added insurance by scoring off a rebound from a corner kick in the 71st minute.
Sept. 13: Susquehanna 4, King's (Pa.) 1 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Junior forward Abby Montgomery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored the first and last goals of the game to help lead Susquehanna University past visiting King's College (Pa.), 4–1, at Sassafras Fields on Sept. 13.
Sophomore forwards Alison Chavers (Freehold, N.J./Ranney School) and Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) both scored one goal, with Chavers' being the eventual game-winner. Sophomore defender Samantha Farina (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) picked up the lone assist for Susquehanna (1–2–1 overall). The lone goal for King's (1–4–0 overall) was unassisted.
Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J/Randolph) made three saves for Susquehanna and was charged with just the one goal through 80 minutes, 53 seconds. Tompeck was replaced by junior Alyssa Kemmerer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick), who did not have to make a save in the final 9:07. The King's keeper made five saves during all 90 minutes.
Montgomery's first goal was a straight-on shot that got over the Monarchs keeper's hands in the 17th minute. Chavers scored in the 25th minute off Farina's assist with a ball to the lower left corner. The Crusaders led at halftime, 2–0.
King's scored on a shot to Tompeck's right in the 52nd minute, but Briskey answered that with a blast to the upper right corner past the King's goalie in the 79th minute. Susquehanna's final insurance goal came when Montgomery scored again. This time, she chose the lower left corner of the King's net in the 81st minute to put a lid on the first win of the 2008 season for the Crusaders.
SU outshot King's, 15–8, including a 10–3 edge in the first half, and took five corner kicks to the Monarchs' four.
Sept. 10: Susquehanna 0, Franklin & Marshall 3 Box Score
LANCASTER, Pa. — Three different senior midfielders scored to help lead Franklin & Marshall College past visiting Susquehanna University, 3–0, at North Campus Athletic Field on Sept. 10.
Franklin & Marshall (3–0–0 overall) scored the eventual game-winner just 5 minutes, 13 seconds into the first half and then added insurance goals in the 62nd and 88th minutes.
Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J/Randolph) made four saves for Susquehanna (0–2–1 overall).
The Diplomats outshot Susquehanna, 11–9, and took five corner kicks to the Crusaders' none.
August 31: Susquehanna 0, Mary Washington 1 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The visiting University of Mary Washington edged Susquehanna University, 1–0, at Sassafras Fields on Aug. 31.
Susquehanna (0–1–1 overall) had its share of scoring chances but couldn't get a goal past the Eagles' goalkeeper, who made three saves, including getting a hand on a semi-breakaway shot, to earn the shutout.
Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made three saves to give the Crusaders a chance. The Susquehanna defense withstood a late attempt by Mary Washington to get an insurance goal when an SU defender came up with a team save along the goal line with less than six minutes to play.
Mary Washington, which scored in the 60th minute off a header following a long cross, held a 17–9 advantage in shots, but Susquehanna took four corner kicks to the Eagles' three.
Tompeck, Samantha Farina (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) and Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) were three of 12 players named to the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer Classic all–tournament team.
Tompeck made a career-high 14 saves against visiting York College of Pennsylvania in a 0–0 tie on Aug. 30. York came into the game as the No. 16-ranked team in NCAA Division III.
August 30: Susquehanna 0, #16 York (Pa.) 0 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made a career-high 14 saves, including four in overtime, to help Susquehanna University fight to a scoreless tie with visiting York College of Pennsylvania at Sassafras Fields on Aug. 30.
Tompeck's 14 saves tie for the fourth-highest single-game total in program history.
York came into the game as the No. 16-ranked team in NCAA Division III.
