SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Crusaders dropped a 8-1 decision to the Gophers of the Goucher College on Saturday.
Susquehanna grabbed their solo win in No. 1 singles, while the Gophers swept through the doubles matches and all remaining singles matches.
Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) played a heated match with Joan Pulupa to come out on top with a 7-3 tiebreak win. Guerin won the first set handily, 6-1 and followed with a 7-6 victory decided by the tiebreaker.
Jessi Haas (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) played a close match against Mouna Attarha, yet fell in the superset 2-6, 6-2 (10-5).
With the loss, Susquehanna dropped to 5-11 (1-6 Landmark), while Goucher improved to 11-7 (3-3 Landmark).

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Despite a strong start with a 8-3, No. 1 doubles victory, the Crusaders fell victim to the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Katie Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) opened for the Crusaders with the doubles win over Sarah Grodzinski and Shayna Heintzelman. The Dutchmen followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 before edging Crusaders Christine Crigler and Eliza Lewis, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.
Lebanon Valley continued their dominance with a clean sweep of the singles matches to improve to 17-3 overall, while the Crusaders dropped to 5-10 (1-5 Landmark) on the season.
April 15: Colonels blank Crusaders in non-conference match Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Susquehanna women's tennis team fell to Wilkes University 9-0 on Tuesday in non-conference action.
On the Susquehanna courts, Wilkes led 3-0 after doubles action. Sophomore Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) played a hard-fought match in No. 1 singles, yet fell by a score 10-6 to Alison McDonald.
Senior Katie Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) also played tough in the next singles match, coming up just short, 10-7 to Colonel Xiaoqiao Zhang.
With the loss, the Crusaders fell to 5-9 overall, while Wilkes improved to 15-2 on their season.
April 13: Susquehanna falls to Catholic, 6-2 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Crusaders dropped a 6-2 decision to the Cardinals of the Catholic University of America on Sunday.
Susquehanna grabbed their two wins from No. 2 and 3 doubles, while the Cardinals swept the singles matches.
Katie Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Ali Tonetti (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) defeated Corinne Alcorn and Reenie Costello of Catholic 8-3 to capture the first orange and maroon victory of the day. Jessi Haas (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Julie Springer (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) followed in No. 3 doubles with a 8-6 victory for the Cruasders, over Mary Wargo and Caitlin Dunn.
With the loss, Susquehanna dropped to 5-8 (1-5 Landmark) while Catholic improved to 5-8 (4-2 Landmark).
April 9: Tonetti win decides Crusaders' 5-4 victory Box Score
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - It came down to the last match, but Ali Tonetti (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) got a 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) win in No. 4 singles to give Susquehanna University a 5-4 win over Landmark Conference opponent Juniata College on Wednesday.
The Crusaders' other singles wins -- all in straight sets -- came at the No. 3 spot, where Katie Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) defeated Lauren Perow; No. 5, as Jessi Haas (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) defeated Laura Gregory; and No. 6, where Julie Springer (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) defeated Katie Kline.
Springer and Haas paired up for a win at No. 3 doubles, beating Gregory and Kline 8-2.
Susquehanna moves to 5-7 (1-3 Landmark) while Juniata falls to 4-11 (1-4 Landmark).
April 6: Rangers edge Crusaders, 5-4 Box Score
MADISON, N.J. On Sunday, the Susquehanna womens tennis team dropped a close decision to Drew at the Drew Tennis Center, 5-4.
The Crusaders captured three singles victories and a sole doubles victory, en route to tallying their four wins. Julie Springer (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Jessi Haas (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) defeated Drews Catherine Jacobs and Preeya Khandge 8-3 in No. 3 doubles, while Brittany Reiman (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades), Haas and Eliza Lewis (Springbrook Twp., Pa./North Pocono) each earned themselves individual victories in their singles matches.
Reiman edged Michelle Ghelama 7-6, 7-5 in No. 1 singles, Haas defeated Corinne Mulroy in an extended match 0-6, 6-1, 20-18 and Lewis tallied a win in No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Khandge.
April 2: Crusaders defeat Mustangs, 6-3 Box Score
STEVENSON, Md. – The Susquehanna women’s tennis team traveled to Villa Julie College on Wednesday afternoon to bring home a 6-3 victory capturing two doubles and four singles victories.
The Crusaders took the top two doubles matches 8-6, as Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Katie Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) won No. 1 doubles for the Crusaders and Ali Tonetti (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and Eliza Lewis (Springbrook Twp., Pa./North Pocono) took the No. 2 match. The Mustang duo of Megan Henszey and Melissa Venter were victorious in No. 3 doubles with a come-from-behind 8-5 win over Ashley Mill (Womelsdorf, Pa./Tulpehocken) and Lydia Bacon (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame).
In singles action, Guerin, Zimmerman, Tonetti and Bacon all captured wins for the orange and maroon. Guerin crushed Barbora Hnizda 6-1, 6-2, Zimmerman defeated Becky Matlack 6-3, 6-1, Tonetti downed Samm Rasnake 6-3, 6-3 and Bacon defeated Venter 8-5.
March 29: Crusaders fall to Scranton in Landmark action Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Susquehanna women's tennis team fell to the University of Scranton 9-0 on Saturday in Landmark Conference action.
On the Susquehanna courts, Scranton led 3-0 after doubles action. Sophomore Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) played a hard-fought match in No. 2 singles, taking the second set before falling 6-4 in the third.
Senior Katie Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) forced a tiebreak in the first set at No. 3 singles but dropped the second set 6-1. Classmate Ali Tonetti (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) played tough in the next singles match, coming up with the win in the second set.
Jessi Haas (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) started off the No. 6 singles match with a 5-7 win but could not sustain the momentum, dropping the next two 6-2 and 10-3.
Monday, March 24: Moravian 9, Susqhehanna 0 Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Crusaders fell to the Greyhounds of Moravian College on Monday afternoon in Landmark Conference action 9-0.
At Hoffman Courts, Moravian led 3-0 after doubles action with victories by the teams of senior Lindsey Hopper and junior Dyana Swan, seniors Brittany Popaca and Jennel Yelito and junior MaryKate Kelly and freshman Kerry McKinley. In an evenly matched game, Hopper and Swan defeated Brittany Reiman (Upper Black Eddy, Pa./Palisades) and Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) 9-7 in first doubles.
In single action, the Greyhounds had six straight sets wins with victories by Hopper, Swan, Popaca, Yelito, McKinley and senior Rebecca Angstadt.
Thursday, October 11: Goucher 8, Susquehanna 1 Box Score
Despite a number of close matches, many requiring a third set of play, the Susquehanna University women's tennis team finished their fall season Thursday afternoon with a 8-1 loss at Goucher College.
The only Susquehanna win of the day came from the doubles squad of Shelby Werronen (Concord, OH/Riverside) and Margaret Gardner (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) with a 8-5 win.
Sophomore Brittany Guerin (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville), playing first singles for the Crusaders, fell to
Goucher's Carly Heinz 6-4, 6-2. Playing second singles for the squad, Werronen dropped a tight match to Joan Pulupa 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-8).
In other singles action, Susquehanna's Ali Tonetti (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) fell to Tanya Cooley in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3); Julie Springer (Lansdale,PA) dropped a match to Mouna Attarha 6-3, 6-2; Jessi Haas (Montoursville, PA) was defeated by Christina Grimm 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8); and Beth Lawrence (Sunbury/Shikellamy) closed out the single's matches with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Stella Day of Goucher.
Susquehanna's top doubles tandem of Guerin and Tonnetti fell to the Gopher's Pulupa and Cooley 8-5. Losing also by a three game deficit, Springer and Hass dropped another tight match to the Goucher's doubles squad of Grimm and Chloe Scott-Giry.
The loss in Maryland dropped the Crusaders to 3-4 overall and improved the Gophers to 4-2 on the season. |
