Denny Bowers, Head Coach
(570) 372-4417 - bowers@susqu.edu

Bowers, a former four-year starter for the Susquehanna University baseball team, will begin his fourth season as the team's head coach in 2009.

After serving as an assistant coach for five years, Bowers was named as the head coach in the summer of 2005. He earned Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2006 after leading the Crusaders to fifth place out of eight teams in the conference following five straight last-place finishes.

Bowers started as a pitcher during his freshman year before garnering a starting spot in the field the next three seasons. He was a MAC all-star in 1998 and is currently fourth in SU history with a career batting average of .373. He also ranks sixth in school history with a career on-base percentage of .464.

Bowers played in 94 collegiate games and had a career slugging percentage of .498. As a pitcher, he went 8-6 over 105.2 innings while striking out 74 batters.

In addition to being a standout on the diamond, Bowers was an outstanding defensive player for the Susquehanna football team. He was a two-time first-team all-Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference selection and a second-team all-region pick as a senior in 1999. That year, he was the MAC's Defensive Lineman of the Year after registering 35 tackles, seven sacks and three blocked kicks. He is ranked second in Crusaders history in both tackles for a loss and yardage lost on those tackles. He is fourth all-time in sacks.

Bowers also serves as SU's equipment manager and resides in Watsontown, Pa., with his wife, Amy, and daughter, Elle.

Matt Slivinski, Assistant Coach
slivinski@susqu.edu

Slivinski returns to Susquehanna as a third year assistant coach for the 2009 season.

Slivinski is a 2003 graduate of Albright College where he held a career hitting average of over .300. A three-year captain, Slivinski was a two-year starting pitcher while also playing center field. In 2003 he earned first-team Middle Atlantic Conference honors, the same season he ranked second in Division III in the nation in saves. Upon graduation, he held both the career and season-saves record for the Lions.

Since graduating, Slivinski served as an assistant at Albright during the 2004 season before coaching at Great Mills High School, Md. where he helped his team to the state quarterfinals.

A graduate of Selinsgrove High School, Slivinski played pitcher and center fielder for the Seals and to-date remains on the all-time records list. He now plays competitively for the Northumberland Diamondbacks in the North Branch League.

Outside of baseball, Slivinski works as a local attorney.
