Susquehanna Topples Soaring Eagles, 80 Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Seven separate Susquehanna University players scored goals, and Kristen Epting (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) added four assists in an 8–0 non-conference victory over visiting Elmira College at Sassafras Fields on Oct. 11.

Susquehanna (6-7 overall) outshot Elmira (1-11 overall), 30–2, and held a 19–1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Crusaders opened scoring 2 minutes, 3 seconds into the first half with the eventual game-winning goal by sophomore forward Caitlin Peterson (York, Pa./Central York) on an assist from junior back Courtney Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area). A penalty corner taken by senior midfielder Jenelle Anthony (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and stick-stopped by Epting was put away by freshman back Laurel Monaghan (East Fallowfield, Pa./Coatesville Area) giving the Crusaders a 2–0 lead at 4:57.

At 10:30, Anthony deflected a shot by Epting high into the left corner of the cage before sophomore back Julia Amendola (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) tallied her own goal at 19:41 following a scramble in front of the cage. Salsman collected SU’s fifth goal of the day off a Monaghan feed at 20:50 to close out the first half.

Senior forward Maggie Kramer (Royersford, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) put the Orange and Maroon up, 6–0, at 42:03 with the Elmira goalie out of position. To finalize the scoreboard count at 8–0, freshman midfielder Katie Laffey (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) scored her first four collegiate points with back-to-back goals aided by Epting assists at 58:23 and 60:33, respectively.

Freshman Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca) was not forced to make a save in the first half, while sophomore Natasha Eisenhart (Gordon, Pa./Conrad Weiser) stopped one shot in the second, sharing the Susquehanna shutout.

Next Game: Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Rowan, 6 p.m.
