ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Susquehanna University won both of its silver-bracket matches on the second day of Muhlenberg College's Buttermaker Tournament at Memorial Hall on Sept. 6.

Susquehanna (7–2 overall) topped King’s College, Pa. (6-2 overall), 3–2 (20–25, 25–18, 25–6, 20–25, 15–13), in a 10 a.m. match and FDU-Florham (1–6 overall), 3-2 (20–25, 25–21, 12–25, 25–23, 15–11), in a 12 p.m. match.

Against King's, freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led the Crusaders with 35 assists and added three kills. Sophomore outside hitter and all–tournament team honoree Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led SU with 18 kills, while sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban), junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) and junior opposite hitter Katie Peters (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) posted 8, 7 and 6 kills, respectively.

Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) led the defensive scheme with 16 digs, while Cicioni and Downing added 14 and 13, respectively.

The Crusaders tallied 14 service aces against the Monarchs.

Against Florham, the orange and maroon made a miraculous come-from-behind fourth-game win to force a decisive fifth game. The Crusaders found themselves in a nine-point deficit in the fourth game as the Devils stood within five points of the win. However, Susquehanna came back to take the game, 25-23. The momentum continued as SU captured the decisive game, 15-11.

Chase again led the Crusaders with 24 assists, while freshman setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) dished out 22. Jankiewicz tallied 24 kills, and junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) added 11. Schroeder dug out 25 kill attempts, and Downing racked in 14.


Sept. 5 at Buttermaker Tournament: SU 3, DeSales 1; SU 0, York (Pa.) 3 Match 1 Match 2

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Susquehanna University split its two matches on the first day of of Muhlenberg College's Buttermaker Tournament at Memorial Hall on Sept. 5.

Susquehanna (5–2 overall) topped DeSales University (3–4 overall), 3–1 (23–25, 25–16, 25–19, 25–12), in a 6 p.m. match and fell to York College, Pa. (4–1 overall), 3–0 (25–22, 25–17, 25–14), in an 8 p.m. match.

Against DeSales, freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led Susquehanna with 15 assists and a service ace as the Crusaders won their fifth straight match. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom), junior opposite hitter Katie Peters (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) posted 14, 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Crusaders tallied five servives aces against the Bulldogs.

The orange and maroon dropped three straight games against York. Chase led SU with 12 assists. Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) posted four kills, while senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) registered 13 digs.


Sept. 3 at Wilkes: SU 3, Wilkes 0 Box Score

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Visiting Susquehanna University defeated Wilkes University, 3–0 (25–14, 25–10, 25–18), in a women’s volleyball match at the Marts Center on Sept. 3.

Susquehanna (4–1 overall) won their fourth straight match after topping Wilkes (2–3 overall).

Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) posted a match-high 18 kills. Freshman setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) led the Crusaders with 15 assists, while freshman Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) followed close behind by tallying 12. Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) and junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) posted 13 and 11 digs, respectively. Schroeder added three service aces, while Cicioni registered nine kills.

Aug. 31 at Haverford Invitational: SU 3, Cabrini 2; SU 3, Gallaudet 1 Match 1 Match 2

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Susquehanna University won both of its matches on the second day of the Haverford Invitational at Haverford College's Douglas B. Gardner '83 Integrated Athletic Center on Aug. 31.

Susquehanna (3–1 overall) topped Cabrini College (0–4 overall), 3–2 (23–25, 25–22, 19–25, 25–13, 15–11) in a 10 a.m. match and Gallaudet University (2–2 overall), 3-1 (25–20, 25–18, 23–25, 25–18) in a 12 p.m. match.

Sophomore outside hitter and all–tournament team honoree Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) posted a match-high 25 kills and five service aces against Cabrini. Jankiewicz also had four blocks. Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led the Crusaders with 32 assists and dug out 12 kill attempts. Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) and sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) posted 13 and 10 digs, respectively. Junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) and junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) both served four aces. Cicioni also tallied nine kills and four blocks. Junior opposite hitter Katie Peters (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) also had four blocks.

Against Gallaudet, Jankiewicz led Susquehanna with 11 kills. She also served two aces. Chase dished out 26 assists and served two aces as well. Downing led SU with 11 digs and three service aces. Schroeder had eight digs and served two aces. Cicioni had another fine all-around match by posting nine kills, three assists, one service ace and two digs.

 

Aug. 30 at Haverford Invitational: SU 0, St. Mary's (Md.) 3; SU 3, Coast Guard 1 Match 1 Match 2

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Susquehanna University split its first two matches of the Haverford Invitational at Haverford College's Douglas B. Gardner '83 Integrated Athletic Center on Aug. 30.

Susquehanna (1–1 overall) topped the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (0–2 overall), 3–1 (19–25, 25–21, 25–16, 25–19) in a 3 p.m. match after falling, 3–0 (26–24, 25–14, 25–21), to St. Mary's College of Maryland (1–1 overall) in an 11 a.m. match.

Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) led Susquehanna with 10 kills and posted three blocks against Coast Guard. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) had nine kills. Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led the Crusaders with 36 assists and 14 digs. Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) and sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) both tallied seven kills and 11 digs. Cicioni added three blocks. Junior opposite hitter Katie Peters (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) led all players with five blocks, and junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) served two aces and dug out seven kill attempts.

Against St. Mary's, Jankiewicz led Susquehanna with 10 kills, Chase dished out 23 assists, Cicioni posted eight kills, Downing led the Crusaders with five digs and Hals registered three blocks.
