Susquehanna Women's Lacrosse

SELINSGROVE, Pa., Nov. 18 — Laura Moan, who coached women's lacrosse at SUNY Oneonta, has been named the head coach of Susquehanna University's women's lacrosse team.

"Coach Moan will be a terrific addition to our staff, said the university's Director of Athletics Pam Samuelson. "I am confident that the quality of her experience, especially her expertise in the area of training goalkeepers, will move our lacrosse program to a higher level in the near future. In addition, she has demonstrated her commitment to the development of the individual student-athlete off-the-field through her past involvement in the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program and as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor. She has truly proven to be committed to the Division III philosophy."

Moan (pictured) was the head women's lacrosse coach at Division III Oneonta and a physical education instructor from 2001 to 2007. Before Oneonta, she was the head women's lacrosse coach at Division III Marymount University from 1999 to 2001, and DIII St. Mary's College of Maryland, where she head coached the women's lacrosse and field hockey teams from 1997 to 1999.

Moan was also the coach of the Selinsgrove, Pa., girls' lacrosse club team in 2008.

She has been a member of numerous national committees, including the NCAA women's lacrosse championships and NCAA regional advisory committees. She chaired the championships committee from 2003 to 2005, and she is still an NCAA championships site representative.

Moan served in various roles within the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association from 1997 to 2007, sitting on committees to select all-star game players and all–region and All–America honorees. Moan was a US Lacrosse grant committee member from 2006 to 2007, a State University of New York Athletic Conference sport committee chairperson from 2005 to 2006 and a Capital Athletic Conference sport committee chairperson from 1997 to 2001.

She has compiled a 90–74 career record in 10 years of coaching women's lacrosse, including three straight 10-win seasons from 2002 to 2004 at Oneonta State. The Red Dragons were 11–4 in 2003, with the 11 wins being the highest single-season total in program history. Her 2004 team qualified for Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason play.

Moan coached Marymount to seven wins in 2000, which was more wins than the team's previous three seasons combined. Her 1998 and 1999 St. Mary's teams had a 28–7 record and made two trips to the NCAA championships. The 1998 team was ranked as high as No. 9 in Division III, while the 1999 Seahawks got as high as No. 5. Moan was the CAC and an IWLCA regional Coach of the Year for both of those seasons and coached the 1998 and 1999 CAC Rookies and Players of the Year.

She played lacrosse for years as the starting goalkeeper for Division I Boston College. She graduated from Boston College in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and earned a Master of Education degree in athletic administration and leadership from Goucher College in 2000.

Moan takes over head coaching duties at Susquehanna for Brenda Brewer, who resigned on Oct. 17.
