SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The visiting University of Mary Washington edged Susquehanna University, 1–0, at Sassafras Fields on Aug. 31.

Susquehanna (0–1–1 overall) had its share of scoring chances but couldn't get a goal past the Eagles' goalkeeper, who made three saves, including getting a hand on a semi-breakaway shot, to earn the shutout.

Senior Meredith Tompeck (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made three saves to give the Crusaders a chance. The Susquehanna defense withstood a late attempt by Mary Washington to get an insurance goal when an SU defender came up with a team save along the goal line with less than six minutes to play.

Mary Washington, which scored in the 60th minute off a header following a long cross, held a 17–9 advantage in shots, but Susquehanna took four corner kicks to the Eagles' three.

Tompeck, Samantha Farina (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) and Julie Briskey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) were three of 12 players named to the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer Classic all–tournament team.

Tompeck made a career-high 14 saves against visiting York College of Pennsylvania in a 0–0 tie on Aug. 30. York came into the game as the No. 16-ranked team in NCAA Division III.
