Crusaders compete at last chance meets; fall short of national cutoffs
SELINSGROVE, PA – Two Crusaders qualified and improved upon their provisional distances and times during the course of three last chance meets; however their marks fell slightly short of those awarded an invitation to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh May 22-24.
Senior co-captain Kendall Luy (Bainbridge, Pa./Elizabethtown) edged the provisional mark of the 38.70 meters in the javelin on March 29 at the Jim Taylor Invitational. Luy recorded a 38.77 meter throw to earn herself a tentative spot on the list before adding two additional centimeters to her distance with a 38.79 meter toss at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on May 13.
Freshman distance guru, Alycia Woodruff (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) joined Luy on the list of provisional candidates on May 13. Woodruff raced a 4:37.75 1500 meter run at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet to earn a potential trip to nationals.
Despite outstanding provisional performances, Luy and Woodruff were not granted the liberty of advancing to the national meet. Teammate Mike Marr will compete on Friday in the men’s high jump competition slated for 1 p.m.
