 Alicia Jackson
SWSB Welcomes New Dean
Alicia J. Jackson has joined Susquehanna University as dean of the Sigmund Weis School of Business. Prior to her appointment, Jackson served for seven years as dean of the College of Business and Information Science at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Previously, she held the position of associate dean at this independent, historically black university. As dean, she provided visionary leadership for faculty, students and staff, and advanced the academic mission of the business college by building corporate partnerships and securing significant grants and contracts from private and government sources.

Jackson says she believes in a holistic approach to education. “Competence in a discipline is just a small part of the ability to advance in a career. A person’s whole being comes to bear on their work performance,” Jackson says. “I am, of course, interested in students’ knowledge in such areas as accounting, finance, and management, but I also want to know if they can work well with other people. Do they have the ability to question, to identify the blanks that need to be filled in and then seek the answers to fill those blanks? Do they have an ethical understanding of how to treat people? These are the things I’m interested in teaching students because there is more to education than what is in a book.”

The Sigmund Weis School of Business is one of only a handful of programs at exclusively undergraduate liberal arts colleges to have earned accreditation from the prestigious AACSB International, a benchmark of quality for business programs.
