MISSION: Sterling Communications is dedicated to providing quality public relations counseling for businesses and organizations at Susquehanna University and in the local community, while helping students grow professionally.
Constitution
Article I. Name
The name of this organization is Sterling Communications, a student-run public relations firm of Susquehanna University.
Article II. Objectives
Sterling Communications aims to provide real life experiences to its active members by applying classroom theories to various jobs on and off the Susquehanna University campus. Our goal is to encourage students to adhere to the highest ideals and principles of the practice of public relations and to instill in them a professional attitude.
Article III. Membership
Membership shall comprise of undergraduate students regardless of race, color, creed, or sex who are either public relations majors or students who have demonstrated an interest in public relations.
Article IV. Officers
The officers of this chapter shall be as follows:
President
Vice President
Sales & Marketing Director
Practicum Coordinator
Administrative Director
Elected positions are that of the president and vice president. The president and vice president appoint the positions of sales & marketing director, practicum coordinator, and administrative director. Elections shall take place at the end of the spring semester. Special elections may occur when needed.
Article V. Faculty Advisor
The faculty advisor is appointed annually by the head of the Department of Communications at Susquehanna University.
Article VI. Meetings
Members will meet on a weekly basis with the time, place and location to be determined.
Article VII. Removal of Officers
The officers may be removed by a two-thirds vote of the Sterling Communications membership during a special meeting held for this purpose. Petition for removal must be submitted to all parties concerned at least 3 weeks in advance of a special convocation of the firm and all parties concerned shall have the opportunity to present their case. Grounds for removal shall be intentional misconduct so as to bring discredit to Sterling Communications, dereliction of assigned duties, intentional violation chapter bylaws, and/or failure to maintain acceptable academic standards. Proceedings in such cases shall be confidential. A removed officer shall be replaced by one elected by a plurality vote of the firm membership.
Article VIII. Activities
Sterling Communications will provide research, fundraising, promotion, improving the public image of clients, and other public relations duties. We will invite experienced public relations practitioners to share with members their public relations experiences. Sterling Communications members will also have the opportunity to travel to communication agencies and firms to gain a broader perspective of public relations.
