Payne is a licensed psychologist who has worked in counseling centers since 1981, with a particular emphasis in working with trauma and abuse. She also is interested in dream interpretation, positive psychology, and training and administration. As director of the Counseling Center, she consults with faculty, staff and students regarding psychological concerns, sees students for individual therapy, participates in training and serves on the Student Support Network.
Before coming to Susquehanna University, she served as associate director, clinical coordinator and training director at the Counseling Center at Northern Illinois University.
Her memberships include the American Psychological Association, the International Association of Positive Psychology, the Society of Counseling Psychology, and the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors.
