Hearts for the Homeless
Hearts for Homeless is committed to educating students and increasing their awareness of what homelessness really is and who it affects. The group frequently works with Haven Ministries homeless shelter. In spring 2012, they collected toiletries for S.P.L.A.S.H. and raised more than $100 for a student whose home was lost in a fire. The club teamed up with the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, to make dinner at Haven Ministries. In future, they intend to get involved with more organizations, run a retreat and host a poverty simulation.
"After going on S.P.L.A.S.H. and volunteering at local soup kitchens, I wanted to learn more about homelessness and what I could do to help eliminate it. This club was the next step for me. The members really want to help people understand homelessness and are devoted to helping people who are in that situation."
