Poverty Simulation

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go without something you needed? In 2011, 46.2 million people in the United States  (15 percent) lived below the poverty line.  The poverty simulation is an interactive event where participants role play the life of individuals and families dealing with the challenges of poverty.

The Union-Snyder Community Action Agency (USCAA), an organization whose mission is to help alleviate poverty in the communities surrounding Selinsgrove, facilitates the simulation on campus year. USCAA adapts a national poverty simulation model to local circumstances in order to help participants understand the challenges people experiencing poverty face. An annual event, the poverty simulation is typically held near the beginning of the spring semester.
