Christmas Candlelight Service
Dec. 2, 2014, 7:30 p.m.
The annual Christmas Candlelight Service is one of Susquehanna's most cherished traditions, as more than 1,600 members of the SU and surrounding communities gather in Weber Chapel.
The service includes candle lighting and carols, as well as traditional readings, songs and prayers in celebration of the season. University Chaplain Scott Kershner presides and preaches, assisted by a faculty lector, three student deacons and the Rev. Dan Powell, pastor of St. Pius X Church in Selinsgrove and spiritual advisor to Susquehanna's Catholic community. Susquehanna’s President L. Jay Lemons continues the tradition of reading the Prologue to John’s Gospel.
Music is provided by the Festival Chorus, the University Choir, University Chorale, and Chamber Singers, under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Julia Brasher Thorn and Assistant Professor of Music, Jason Vodicka; also the Handbell Choir, Brass Quintet and Director of Chapel Music and Associate Professor of Music Marcos Krieger.
No tickets are required, however, please bring an non-perishable food item and place it by the tree in either the Main Lobby or Horn Lobby. Your donation will be given to the Selinsgrove Kitchen Cupboard at St. Paul UCC.
