Bias Response and Education Team
Susquehanna University is committed to be an engaged, culturally inclusive campus. At the same time, college and university campus are not immune to incidents of bias.
A bias incident is an act or behavior motivated by the offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic/national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender/identity/expression or any other distinguishing characteristic. Bias occurs whether the act is intentional or unintentional or is directed toward an individual or group and may contribute to creating an unsafe/unwelcoming environment for victims and social identity groups.
Susquehanna’s Bias Response and Education Team (BRET) exists to provide a structure for immediate counsel and assistance to those students who are witnesses to or targets of bias. The team provides a safe space to communicate experiences, consider the character and gravity of instances ensure comprehensive responses and proactively address issues of civility and respect.
Students can refer students to BRET members and should also submit bias complaints that are directly reported to them by students. Reports can be directed to team members by e-mail or phone.
