Bruce Johnson is Associate Professor of English at James Madison University . In 1999 he organized the first scholarly panel to discuss the fiction of Susan Howatch at the annual meeting of the South Atlantic MLA.

Charles A. Huttar is Professor of English, Emeritus, at Hope College . He interviewed Susan Howatch as background for an article in An Encyclopedia of British Women Writers (1998) and has maintained a correspondence with her.
