Noël Valis is Professor of Spanish at Yale University . Her previous books include The Decadent Vision in Leopoldo Alas, The Novels of Jacinto Octavio Picón, In the Feminine Mode: Essays on Hispanic Women Writers (co edited with Carol Maier), translations of Julia Uceda and Pedro Salinas, and The Culture of Cursilería: Bad Taste, Kitsch and Class in Modern Spain, which won the MLA’s Katherine Singer Kovacs Prize in 2003.
