Noted scholar and translator David Willinger has edited six volumes of his translations of Belgian plays, including those by Ghelderode, Maeterlinck, Kalisky, Louvet, Willems, and the Brussels surrealists. From a previous anthology, his translation of Hugo Claus's The Temptation garnered him a Translation Center Award. He has also received National Endowment for the Humanities Awards, Jerome Foundation Awards, a Fulbright Research Fellowship, and le Prix de Rayonnement a l'Etranger from the Belgian government for his copious work on Belgian theater. David Willinger is also a theater director, having staged many plays at Theater for the New City, LaMaMa ETC, HERE, and elsewhere. He is chairperson of the Department of Theatre and Speech at City College, CUNY, and a member of the doctoral faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center. |
