The Sacrament and Other Plays of Forbidden Love
by Claus David Willinger, editor

Holland's greatest living writer now has his work translated into English. "The Sacrament and Other Plays of Forbidden Love by Hugo Claus" is a collection of translated work from Hugo Claus, translated by the deft team of David Willinger, Luc Duneulin, and Luk Truyts. The three works are ones that provoke thought and controversy, yet are eloquently composed. 'Bride in the Morning' follows a sister's battle with her incestuous desires for her brother, 'Sugar' is about one man's obsession with a prostitute who may end up killing herself, and the titular play ‘The Sacrament’ follows a gay man trying to gain acceptance from the priest who molested him so many years ago. Strange yet enlightening; "The Sacrament and Other Plays of Forbidden Love by Hugo Claus" is a must add to any theatre's library of source material.
